 Devotion & Prayer - Susan Eisner
Thanksgiving is approaching and we think of what makes us thankful. I am
thankful for our parents, for the dedication you have to our children, our
school and to our Lord. I am very thankful for our staff. The staff and
students are working collaboratively to establish a school wide positive
behavior plan with the acronym REAL. The big idea is that no matter what
your age and position that you will be Respectful, Encouraging, show
Adoration for the Lord, and do it with Love. We are encouraging students to
be REAL throughout their daily lives. Watch for more information on this as
the year goes on.
 Approval of September 2014 Minutes – approved
**please remember that minutes are now to be read prior to the meeting,
and to email the PTL any changes that need to be made to the minutes at
[email protected]
 Principal’s Reports
Susan Eisner – Main Campus
1. With Thanksgiving coming up, we’re reflecting on things for which we are
thankful. I can't help but feel blessed by the amazing community of families
at Hope. The number of parents that pray, volunteer, and support the staff
and school is staggering. I thank God for each one of you!
2. We had our Special Person Day on October 1. It was so nice to see how
excited the children were to bring their special person to Chapel and their
classrooms. It is a privilege to see how many people are involved in
educating our students.
3. The staff and students are working collaboratively to establish a school
wide positive behavior plan with the acronym REAL. The big idea is that no
matter what your age and position that you will be Respectful, Encouraging,
show Adoration for the Lord, and do it with Love. Watch for more
information on this as the year goes on.
4. The teachers are looking forward to attending the Christian Teacher's
conference on Thursday and Friday in Langley. (No school these days.)
5. It’s exciting that once again on Friday, October 17, Hope is hosting the
Christian Elementary School Sports (CESS) Gr. 6/7 Soccer Tournament. Mr.
Mathew is looking for parent volunteers. Information is in the Monday
note.
6. Other sports that are taking place include Cross Country Running and
Volleyball.
7. Parent Teacher Conferences are coming up at the end of the month.
Quite soon, you will see information regarding sign up. If you have any
questions, please see Mrs. Eisner.
8. Other exciting events coming up are Gym Sense for grades K to 4 and the
movement of the grades 4 and 7 classes back to their classrooms some
time next week.
I can’t stress enough the importance of following proper guidelines when
parking and driving in our neighborhood. People are STILL parking illegally,
letting children out in the wrong areas and driving without due care and
attention. We must ALL take ownership and responsibility for the safety of
the children and parents at the school as well as demonstrate respect for
our neighbors.
I am putting out a plea for more parent volunteers in the morning as well as
in the afternoon. If you can come and help out, please grab a vest at
8:30am. Our parking lot supervisor, Mrs. Malmberg is out at the crosswalk
by 8:20 and Mrs. Eisner is usually out there by 8:35. They will be happy to
direct you, as will some of our other Parent Pro’s! (I can’t thank Mike Feleke
and Charlene Shular for their help so far. There have been a few other
parents who have helped out from time to time as well. All your help is
appreciated!)
Also, after dropping off please exit the lane to the left (towards Oxford) to
cut down on the traffic on York Street.
In the afternoon, Mrs. Eisner is looking for volunteers who can help her
walk the neighboring streets and kindly remind parents to follow parking
laws.
Luke Adam - High School Principal Report
1. Since hosting our retreat the first week back from summer vacation I
have nothing but positive reviews of the time spent at Alouette Lake
building and strengthening our high school community.
2. It was a busy September at the high school with students being involved
with student council, the high school retreat, field trips to the library, guest
speakers, the Terry Fox Run, yearbook, soccer, cross country, and golf. This
month we two soccer tournaments, one cross country tournament, and
multiple field trips/guest speakers booked including a poetry slam
workshop.
3. We had to make a calendar change in the high school which has been
outlined in the Monday Note. Our high school staff had originally planned
to attend a Pro-D on October 24 but needed to switch back to attending
the CTABC conference on October 9 and 10. Thank you for supporting our
professional development. This is a great conference each year and we look
forward to participating in it again.
4. Hot Food kicks off at the high school again on October 16. Thank you to
Lijana McDonald and Elisa Fantillo for heading this up.
5. The Great BC Shake Out is October 16 at 10:16am. This is a provincial
wide, non-mandatory, earthquake drill that we participate in each year at
the high school.
6. We are preparing to launch a new school website. The target date is
October 17. The new website will be more intuitive, easier to navigate, and
more modern.
7. WE Day is October 22 and students will have the opportunity to go back
to Rogers Place to hear speakers on social justice and ways that they can
get involved in giving back to the global community.
8. High School Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences are coming up on
October 22 from 5-9pm and October 24 from 9-11am. It is a drop-in format
with teachers situated at tables in the Commons waiting to meet with you.
9. Midterms for the high school are only a month away from today running
on November 5 and 6 with a Mission Day to follow on November 7.

Thank you to all of our volunteers for the countless hours of work that went into
this event; it could not happen without you. The event was a huge success with
many attendees being from the outside community.
For those looking for volunteer hours that can be earned outside school hours,
please consider helping out with the Harvest Fest for next year. We begin
planning in spring. Contact Claudia if you are interested at
[email protected] .
 Class Liaisons – Tania
We are still looking for a grade 6 class liaison; please contact Tania if you
are interested, [email protected] .
 PTL Dessert Night – Tania
Dessert night was Wednesday, September 12 and it went well. During the
evening, parents who had problems with Edmodo were able to sign up.
Next year we are looking at a different format, so stay tuned.
 School Merchandise – Tania
The PTL is looking to sell promotional material such as clothing,
waterbottles and cinch bags. Tania went to three different companies for

After discussion from the floor it was decided that a pre-order form would
go home with students in November to make sure there was a demand for
items before the PTL orders any of the items, due to minimum orders
required by agents.
Motion: That the PTL hire the Perks Agency to produce promotion
products for a PTL fundraiser. Moved, Seconded, Approved.
NEW BUSINESS
 Babysitting Course for High School Students- Tania
Red Cross can offer a babysitting course for students 11 years old + at the
high school if we have a minimum of 14 students interested. The cost is
approximately $65/child. They can also provide a family first aid course.
Right now Mr. Adam is gauging interest in bringing these programs to
Hope. If your family would be interested in participating in either of these
extracurricular courses, please contact Mr. Adam at [email protected] .
 Playground – Tania
We are continuing to explore options for playgrounds to replace the
current fenced playground at the side of the school. We have one quote
for $42 750, with a bark mulch surface. A rubberized surface will be an
additional $40 000 (of which half is eligible for a grant), but is preferred as it
is safer, cleaner, and accessible. The new playground would extend out to
the entire fenced area, and would be used for students in Kindergartengrade 3.
We are currently in need of another $20 000 to make our playground a
reality. The PTL is proposing the purchase of a 1500 piece Noah’s Ark puzzle
to raise funds. Each piece would cost $15; donors giving $30+ would receive
a tax receipt. Through this initiative we would raise $22 500. The puzzle
will be assembled and hung in the school as pieces are sold.
Motion: That the PTL purchase the Noah’s Ark puzzle and begin the
puzzle fundraise. Moved, Seconded, Approved.
 Father Son Scavenger Hunt – Tania
The Father/Son scavenger hunt will be held from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on
Saturday, October 18th, 2014. There will be eleven points of interest
throughout Poco for teams to find. All points are on the map that will be
handed out. Teams will require a smart phone or camera to take a picture
of their team at each location. Younger students will be paired with an
older student to aid in building our community.
The scavenger hunt will end at the school with a chili and hot dog dinner.
Motion: That the PTL approve $100 for the purchase of food for the
father/son scavenger hunt. Moved, Seconded, Approved.
 Fundraising – Sue
There is a new form to fill out if you would like to hold a fundraiser. If you
are interested in holding an event, please contact Sue Inden for the form at
[email protected] . A minimum of two weeks notice is required.
The purpose of the form is to ensure that fundraisers have been properly
thought out logistically, that they fit the tone of the school and its mission,
and that there are not overlapping initiatives at any given time.
All fundraisers will be superimposed onto the school calendar on our
website so that parents know what is coming up. If you click on the
fundraiser on the calendar, it will also tell you how the fundraiser is being
carried out (for instance, forms are being sent home, or go to a table in the
narthex if you are interested).
 Christmas Hampers - Andrea
We will be continuing our tradition of collecting hamper donations for families
in need from our school. The campaign will begin at the end of November,
please watch for details in the Monday Note. Also, I will need a minimum of 10
volunteers to help with this initiative. Even if you only have an hour, please
send me a note at [email protected] .
Meeting adjourned at 8:17 p.m.
Next Meeting – November 7th, 2014 9:15 AM at Riverside Campus
