Food Pantry Angels Our mission is to provide basic food to those who are low income, elderly, widowed, sick, those who have lost their jobs, have been laid off from work and for those who can no longer provide basic necessities for their families. On Aug. 13th we assisted 51 families with 118 people. On Aug. 27th we assisted 40 families with 122 people. We thank everyone for the support you have provided the food pantry! Without your help we could not help the needy families in our community. This month we are asking for donations of Peanut Butter & Jelly. Monetary donations are always needed. It allows us to shop at the grocery stores for those items the regional food bank does not have in stock. Our Angel of the Month is Linda Enders-Baily. She is the “gate keeper” of our food storage area. When a food bag is ready for a client, she notifies the recipient, checks the customer number against the order sheet, sees if the client needs assistance with taking the bags out to their car and finally keeps all completed orders straight for our “bookkeeping department”. Linda is an essential member of our volunteer staff. We appreciate our Angel of the Month! Thank You The Missions Committee wants to thank everyone for their wonderful support of the recent Mission trips to Haiti. Your generosity helped to make the trips a reality. Because you gave, others were able to go and show the love of God to the children. Earlier this year our committee set a goal of doing several projects in our own community. Now we are not asking for financial support, but we need the gift of your time and willingness to work. If you like to paint, come out and join us on Sat., September 27 when we will be painting a home in Kilmarnock. This is a small ranch, so 8-10 volunteers should be able to finish in less than a day. Of course we will not turn away anyone if more would like to help. We are doing this project for Interfaith. On Sat., October 11, we will be participating in an Apostle Build for Habitat for Humanity. Calvary Baptist Church will be joining us in this effort. Here are some interesting facts about our Northern Neck / Tidewater This is a wonderful opportunity to meet area Food Bank: Serves 5 counties with approx. 11,000 people; some fellow Baptists and also to help a Contains 27 food pantries family realize their dream of owning a Recipient breakdown is home. When we get closer to the actual Children under 18 - 36% day, we should know more about the Adults 19-55 - 30% specific work we will be doing. Proverbs 22:9 - He who is generous will be blessed, for he gives some of his food to the poor. Elderly over 55 - 34% Type II Diabetes age 55+ - 75% As you can see it is a large operation that supports our community folks. Community support needed is 100%. Once again, thanks to our congregation for your support and to those volunteer workers that show up each day we have the food pantry open. We couldn’t make this happen without you. Ladies Bible Study Ladies' Bible Study will resume on Wednesday, September 10 at 9:45am. We will continue the David Jeremiah study of Revelation entitled "Escape the Coming Night". Contact Edna Mason at 580-6950 if you can help either day or we would love to have you participate on both days. Ring, Ring, Ring! Bell ringers are needed for Bell Choir, and no experience is necessary (just your love of music through worship and praise!). Rehearsals will be on Monday evenings starting in the fall. Tell Us Your Favorite Hymn! Your favorite hymns will serve as the subject of the homilies during W.O.W. starting in January 2015! We'll look at the stories behind the hymns, Scriptural references, and other encouraging elements of each song. Simply write down your favorite hymn and slip it in the box in Beane Hall! Letter to KBC Apostles Build When: Saturday, October 11 For: Any and Every One! What: Going out into the community to serve others is the way that Jesus’ apostles served. An “Apostles Build” project is a concrete way to put our faith into action by building a Habitat for Humanity house for a local family. Calvary Baptist will be joining us on the build! After the build, everyone is invited to be part of the home dedication. We will pray for the new homeowner and present them with a Bible and the key to their new home! The Newly Weds! Congratulations to Jessica Abbott (now Jessica Kersey) who married Shayne Kersey on August 9th in Williamsburg! Congrats, Grad! Congratulations to Elizabeth (Wilkins) Sanders who received her second Master's Degree on August 22! This time it was a Master's in Educational Administration and Supervision from William and Mary. She has also passed the School Leaders Licensure Assessment to complete this program. She is currently teaching 7th Grade language arts and social studies at St. Clare Walker Middle School in Middlesex County. Dear KBC Family, I would like to thank you all for the continued support for my college education. If I did not have the scholarships and your continued support, college would be much harder to get through. One thing that I can attribute to my church is the continued love and support in a time of need. I genuinely appreciate this scholarship award and and it is a huge help to the success of my college career. I am able to study during the week and work only the weekends due to your continued support. I have learned throughout my college career and life that prayer in the hard times is the best way to deal with the impossible and for that I can thank my church family and can continue to grow in faith. Thanks again and God bless! ~ Heather Oliver Thank You! We express our deepest appreciation to all those who assisted with Meals on Wheels delivery during the month of August.
