MAINTENANCE, REPAIR AND OVERHAUL MINOR
Want to know about the multimillion dollar aftermarket in Aviation? Join the Maintenance,
Repair & Overhaul minor and learn all there is about such things as purchasing and
advising an aircraft, optimizing maintenance process within a maintenance organization,
creating new modifications for existing aircraft and advising on aftermarket logistics.
OVERVIEW
STRUCTURE SEMESTER
Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) is a 40
billion US dollar Aviation aftermarket concerned
with the management, maintenance, repair,
overhaul and modification services of aircraft,
engines and all its related components and
systems. Within the MRO minor the student is
exposed to various elements of this aftermarket.
Through four intensive projects, the students are
brought up to speed with subjects such as
aircraft airworthiness, maintenance management, process optimization and MRO logistics.
Projects that resemble the latest trends in the
industry, together with a large involvement by
the industry through guest lectures and
company visits teaches students relevant topics
in a motivational manner.

WHO’S IT FOR?
Students interested in the Aviation MRO

background in business and/or engineering, with a special interest in the aviation
industry aftermarket.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
During the Maintenance Repair and Overhaul minor students will learn to:
- Make a purchase analysis and
consult on a to be purchased aircraft. This includes analysis of value, implementation process and
certification.
- Apply LEAN principles in an EASA
Part 145 maintenance environment
- Study the feasibility of a product
improvement on an existing aircraft
from an OEM perspective
- Advice the management of a MRO
organization with regard to logistics
and administration of spare parts
In short, you will learn how aircraft airworthiness
is managed, aircraft are purchased, what it takes
to LEAN business processes, how to develop
innovative modifications to existing aircraft and
advice on logistical strategies within the MRO
aftermarket.
AND AFTER I GRADUATE?
You will be a particularly attractive candidate for
employment at airline, maintenance & asset
management companies and many other
organizations looking for well-trained individuals.
The profound knowledge of the Aviation
aftermarket industry, both from an engineering &
business point of view is particularly valued.
ADMISSIONS AND SELECTION:
HOW DO I GET IN?
Suitably qualified students from partner institutes
in other countries will only participate in the four
MRO projects. Lectures in fleet management,
propulsion, electronics, electronic engineering,
human factors, aircraft maintenance and aircraft
operations are not part of the MRO minor. As 19
ECTS might not be enough for foreign
students to comply with the credit points
regulation of their home university, the
Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences
offers additional projects, courses and
lectures to comply with these regulations.
We would like to refer you to the Aviation
Additional Courses folder for more information. The Maintenance, Repair and
Overhaul minor is available in the winter(September – January) and springsemester (February – June). The students
have earned at least 100 ECTS in the previous years at their home university. A
selection process can be part of the admission.
