ACADEMIC RULES
Team Composition:
Teams can be composed of a minimum of three students and no more than four students.
Attire:
All teams are expected to wear full formal business attire for the event.
Registration:
 Upon arrival at the Ron Joyce Center (RJC), teams are required to sign in at the registration desk to
receive their team number for the case competition. Teams are required to use this team number
at all times and are not allowed to disclose their school affiliation.
 A morning briefing will occur where logistical details will be provided, and cases will be handed out.
Competition:
 The case competition portion of the MBA Games will be held on January 3-4 2015 at the Ron Joyce
Center in Burlington, Ontario.
 Teams will be competing in four academic subcategories Finance, Marketing, and two others to be
confirmed.
 On the competition day, teams are required to arrive by 6:30AM. Buses will leave the hotel at 6:00
AM. Breakfast will be available from 5:30-6:00 AM.
 Cases will be distributed at the mandatory meeting at 6:30 AM. Teams will have until 10 AM, when
the presentations are due by USB submission.
 Preliminary rounds will begin presenting promptly at 10 AM with the finals taking place in the
afternoon.
 Teams will be randomly drawn by the VP Academic to decide tracks and presentation times.
Presentation Guidelines:
 Each team will be assigned a study room at the RJC to prepare for their presentations.
 Internet access will be granted for each team.
 Cases must be presented in English.
 Teams are allowed to use any resources available to them for their analysis and preparation.
 EXCEPTION: Teams are not allowed to contact any external individuals including coaches to aid in
the preparation or analysis of the cases.
 Presentations will be no more than 20 minutes in length. Warning will be given to teams at the 5
minute and 1 minute mark, and teams will be promptly cut off after 20 minutes.
 Question period will last up to 10 minutes
 No external viewers will be allowed to watch the first round
Final Round:
 The top team from each track will compete in the finals for each subcategory.
 Team who make it to the final round may not change their slides for their final presentations.
 Final presentation length will remain at 20 minutes with 15 minutes of questioning
 Winners will be announced at the Formal Event on Sunday January 4th.
