Klaus Richter Ladies and Gentlemen, The continued success of commercial aviation triggers a strong growth and structural evolution of the aerospace industry. Increased production rates and associated business volumes require a new layer of companies that are industrially robust and large enough to take responsibility for major work packages. The current portfolio of commercial aircraft models is expected to stay stable over the coming years and incremental innovation, driven both by the OEM and the supply chain, will therefore be a key success factor to maintain and further develop competitiveness of the current aircraft families. Airbus is developing strategies to enable its supply chain to cope with these upcoming challenges and to strengthen its competitive advantages for the mid- and long-term future. The AVIATION FORUM Hamburg 2014 will take place on the 9th and 10th of December in Hamburg, Germany. The theme of the conference is the “Strategic Evolution of the Aerospace Value Chain: Strategies – Concepts – Solutions”. This year’s key topics are „Risk Management in a globalized world” and “Shifting priorities from radical to incremental innovation”, which will be discussed from different perspectives. The first conference day will host six workshops and one panel discussion with the opening of the accompanying exhibition in the early afternoon. An Airbus plant tour in Hamburg-Finkenwerder or alternatively a visit to the Airbus Logistics Center operated by Kuehne + Nagel or the B/E Aerospace Consumables distribution center in Norderstedt will precede the official opening of the conference in the next morning. Fourteen top level presentations will be held on the second day. In 2013 the AVIATION FORUM Hamburg attracted more than 520 participants, among them 100 managers from Airbus, access to best practice know how in the aircraft industry and professional networking opportunities. More than 500 attendees are again expected this year. I wish all attendees a successful AVIATION FORUM Hamburg 2014. Dr.-Ing.
