What is Red R
● RRW is a nationally celebrated week set
aside to encourage the choice to lead a
drug free life.
● The National Family Partnership organized
the first campaign in 1985.
● Visit redribbon.org for more information.
The basics
● Who? Students and communities can
participate at all grade levels.
● What? Participants sign a pledge promising
to live a drug free life and receive a red
ribbon to wear for the week.
● When? Typically the last week in October.

Communit
● Contact local businesses/organizations to
invite them to participate by offering an
incentive to students who WEAR their red
ribbon into their business during RRW.
● Examples: 7-11 free slurpee, Tastee Freez
free cone, High School office Mountaineer
bracelet.
Extension
● Invite your central office, school board members, bus
drivers and high school helpers to participate in RRW
by wearing a red ribbon all week.
● Give the business a sign to hang stating that they are a
participating RRW business.
● List the participating businesses on your letter home
encouraging students to visit.

Spirit days
Spirit days
● Each day of RRW is a spirit day based on
theme.
● First day of week is Red Ribbon Dayeveryone wear RED. By grade level sign the
pledge and get your red ribbon to wear the
whole week.
Spirit week
Tuesday-Explore and discover drug free day (wear hat,
boots and/or camo).
Wednesday-Go FAR drug free day (dress like what you
want to be when you grow up).
Thursday-Life is an adventure day (dress like your favorite
adventurer or dress like a Mountaineer).
Friday-Mountaineers, Proud to be drug free day (go all out
with your blue and white).
