Felices Los que Creen
EL EVANGELIO del domingo pasado narró la historia
de las diferentes reacciones de los tres primeros
discípulos que encontraron la tumba vacía. Hoy, el
evangelista presenta un nuevo personaje: Tomás,
quien no había estado presente la primera vez que
Jesús se apareció a los discípulos. Tomás se niega a
creer a menos que pueda tocar las llagas en las
manos y en el costado de Cristo. Esta petición es
algo tonta; una vez que vemos y tocamos, no es
necesaria la fe, y dudar sería imposible. Sin
embargo, con esta historia San Juan el evangelista
nos demuestra que aún entre los primeros
seguidores de Jesús había dudas y miedos.
Jesús es paciente con Tomás y le permite tocar
sus heridas, lo cual hace que Tomás diga la
famosa frase: “¡Señor mío y Dios mío!” Jesús usa
este incidente para darnos la novena
bienaventuranza: “Felices (benditos) los que
creen sin haber visto”. Esta lectura también nos
recuerda que hemos sido enviados por Jesús a
continuar su misión. Juan Pablo II ha dicho que
solamente a través de una nueva evangelización
podremos transformar la cultura de la muerte en
una cultura de la vida.

One Heart, One Mind
THE EASTER SACRAMENTS of initiation have
called us to become a community of God’s people.
The program for this “community of believers is to
be of one heart and one mind.” What is such a
community like? Look at the reading from Acts. The
early church of Jerusalem respected the apostles
and their witness to the resurrection, and along with
that they shared their possessions. Voluntarily
surrendering their right to private ownership, they
created a situation in which no one among them
was needy. All members of the community had
what they needed, or if they didn’t have it, they got
it from the community. The passage from Acts does
not attempt to impose on us a specific economic
system. Rather, it tells us that whatever economic
system the followers of Jesus Christ espouse, it
had better be a system that provides for the needs
of all the people.

Bài Tin Mừng hôm nay kể lại hai lần
Chúa Giêsu phục sinh hiện ra với các tong đồ.
Lần thứ nhất vào chính ngày phục sinh, lúc đó
vắng mặt ông Tôma. Lần thứ hai, sau đo 8
ngày, lần này có mặt ông Tôma. Mục đích
Chúa hiện ra là để minh chứng cho các môn
đệ thấy chắc chắn Ngài đã sống lại thực sự.
Thái độ ông Tôma cứng lòng khó tin
những điều các bạn tông đồ kể lại, ông cho là
ảo tưởng, không đáng tin. Ông nói: “Nếu tôi
không thấy dấu đinh ở tay Người, nếu tôi
không xỏ ngón tay vào lỗ đinh và không đặt
bàn tay vào cạng sườn Người, tôi chẳng có
tin.” Chúa rất nhân từ và nhẫn nại, Ngài vui
lòng chờ đợi qua tám ngày rồi mới hiện ra để
thỏa mãn những yêu sách của ông. Trước
bằng chứng quá hiển nhiên ấy, ông phục
xuống và kêu lên: “Lạy Chúa của con, lạy
Thiên Chúa của con.”
Lúc ấy Chúa phán một câu mà muôn
đời sẽ suy niệm và trở nên nguồn an ủi, phấn
khởi cho mọi thế hệ về sau: “Phúc thay những
kẻ không thấy mà tin.” Phán câu ấy, Chúa có
ý nhằm đến chúng ta ở thế kỷ 21 này và
muôn thế hệ sau nữa, là những người không
được đặc ân chiêm ngưỡng dung nhan nhân
loại của Chúa, đụng chạm tới thân xác thánh
thiện của Ngài, nhưng chúng ta tin Ngài dựa
vào bằng chứng của các tồng đồ, của Kinh
Thánh và lời Giáo Hội giảng dạy, ai tin qua đó
là có phúc.
Ngay khi hiện đến với các tông đồ, cả
hai lần, lời nói đầu tiên của Chúa là “bình an
cho anh em.” Lời cầu chúc đó được Chúa nói
tới ba lần, đối với các môn đệ lúc ấy thật ý
nghĩa và cần thiết. Các ông đã bỏ mọi sự đi
theo Chúa, nhưng ngờ đâu vị Thầy của các
ông đã bị giết chết như một nhà cách mạng
thất bại, và bây giờ đang nằm trong mồ đá.
Hơn nữa, giờ đây các ông còn phải sống chui
lủi trong cảnh như “rắn mất đầu,” thấp thỏm,
hoang mang, lo sợ. Các ông sợ tất cả mọi
người, nên đã im hơi lặng tiếng, tụ tập nhau
trong căn phòng cửa đóng kín. Giữa lúc đó,
Chúa hiện đến và chúc bình an. Còn gì quí
bằng, đang hoang mang, chán nản, sợ hãi,
các ông gặp Chúa và được Chúa ban cho
điều các ông đang cần, đó là bình an. Ơn lộc
đó Chúa cũng đang muốn dành cho chúng ta
hôm nay.

Sống ở trần gian, ai cũng phải trải qua
những giây phút lo âu: về tương lai, gia đình
con cái, tiền bạc, công ăn việc làm, sức
khỏe…những lo âu ấy như một chất thuốc
độc tác hại vào tâm hồn và cướp đi những
niềm vui trong lành, những giấc ngủ bình yên,
khiến chúng ta luôn băn khoăn, khắc khoải, cố
gắng tìm mọi cách để giải thoát mình khỏi
những lo âu, và như thế có phải là chúng ta
rất cần sự bình an không? Sự bình an đó do
Chúa ban và cũng là cố gắng của mỗi người.
Chúng ta hãy tin tưởng và phó thác
cuộc đời cho Chúa, để bản thân chúng ta tìm
thấy sự bình an, đồng thời hãy cố gắng sống
tốt đẹp, chúng ta sẽ cảm thấy bình an. Đàng
khác, nếu chúng ta chưa đem lại bình an cho
ai, thì chúng ta đừng cố tình làm mất bình an
của họ, bằng lời nói hay việc làm lỗi bác ái
của chúng ta. Xin Chúa ban bình an cho
chúng ta, và xin Chúa cho chúng ta là “khí cụ
bình an của Chúa” cho mọi người.

Cộng đoàn Việt Nam sẽ tổ chức ngày bán
CRAWFISH lần thứ 6, từ 10 giờ sáng đến 4
giờ trưa Chúa Nhật, ngày 19 tháng 4, tại góc
