JOB SPECIFICATION
1.
Summary of the broad purpose of the position, and its responsibilities.
The Senior Policy Officer – Women’s Safety is responsible to the Manager, Policy for:
• The provision of high level policy advice, research and project management on women’s
safety initiatives to influence change in social policy and practice of significance to
women.
• The coordination and facilitation of an integrated approach to women’s safety policy
implementation across government agencies.
• These policies, strategies and programs contribute to the promotion of improved health
and well-being outcomes by addressing the specific needs of women affected by
domestic violence and sexual assault in South Australia.

Reporting/Working Relationships (to whom the person reports, staff for whom the person is responsible,
and other significant connections and working relationships within the organisation.)

The Senior Policy Officer – Women’s Safety reports directly to the Manager, Policy and
is required where appropriate, to provide high level advice through the Manager to: the
Director, Office for Women, the Chief Executive, Department for Families and
Communities and the Minister.
The incumbent will develop and maintain close working relationships with senior officers
throughout the Department for Families and Communities, other government agencies
(State, Commonwealth and local) and key community stakeholder organisations.

Some out of hours work and attendance on evening and weekends may be required.
Prior to an offer of employment being made, candidates must provide authority for SA
Police to disclose any criminal offences or charges to the Attorney-General’s
Department.

across government to address women’s safety by:

Developing and maintaining strategic relationships across the spheres of Government,

Promoting whole of government strategies directed toward achieving gender equity in
South Australia; and
providing input to national policy initiatives and reporting requirements.
Participate in the ongoing development and improvement of OFW services by:

work of the Office; and
Actively participating in staff meetings and training and development opportunities.
