Casey Eden presented to councillors before signing a partnership agreement with Whakatane District Council. , He also made a public presentation to individuals and organisations interested in learning how Neighbourly could help them connect with their community. The website launched across New Zealand in May after a successful twomonth pilot in Auckland. The site fosters interaction and conversation between neighbours and community organisations by creating an easy way for them to talk and share online through free and private websites for each community of interest. As of yesterday. 38 "neighbours" from Whakatane had joined the site and one member, Marewa Karetai had established a group for trading excess fruit and vegetables. Mr Eden said Neighbourly would enable residents in the Whakatane district to ask questions, share advice, make recommendations for local services, plan events, discuss local issues and even find missing pets. Mayor Tony Bonne said the initiative offered a new and valuable way for individuals and organisations to share information about events and activities of interest. "We will be using Neighbourly as another means of engaging with district communities, providing information on council-led activities, events and meetings, keeping people informed about service interruptions and seeking feedback on issues of importance," he said. Councillors questioned Mr Eden on such issues as moderation, the membership verification process and advertising on the site.
