Working closely with suppliers such as Siemens, Knapp, VanDerLande, Witron and Manhatten Associates, at all stages of project development and post implementation running, John has become an expert in his field. For the last seven years John has been the senior project manager responsible for the design, build and implementation of John Lewis’ new semi-automated National Distribution Centre at Magna Park, Milton Keynes and is now head of operations. A second warehouse has now been built alongside the current development and connected via a link bridge forming a campus with an operating footprint in excess of 2 million sq ft. After a career working across Europe in economic regeneration, Kate joined Stobart six years ago. Kate manages public sector engagement and governance and is also a Non-Executive Director of Liverpool City Region LEP and Chair of Atlantic Gateway. Kate has also worked as an independent regeneration expert with the European Commission in the past on major transnational projects in employment, social cohesion and regional development. The business was built up and ultimately sold to Kuehne & Nagel in 2011 for £60m. After a two-year break, Andrew acquired a 90% stake in Europa Worldwide Logistics where he has brought in new management and restructured large parts of the business with the intention of aggressively developing it. HarperCo works closely with the Skills Funding Agency and manages government funds to deliver world class training to its clients – which include Stobart Group, Yodel, Harrods, Santander, G4S and Akzo Nobel. David first established and grew HarperCo to become a multi-million pound national training organisation, and has to date assembled a world class team of sales, operations and training deliverers to achieve and sustain business growth. His industry experience is in logistics, manufacturing and retail. HarperCo operates across a number of business sectors through a variety of subsidiary companies including: Talent Training, hco-digital, hco-people and hco-sustain. DAVID’S SESSION IS ENTITLED: Sustainable Logistics Operations: Reducing carbon by switching from lead-acid batteries to new technologies including lithium-ion and anaerobic digestion ANDREW GULLIFORD GULLIFORD, chief operating officer, SEGRO Andy Gulliford has been at SEGRO since 2004. He was appointed chief operating officer in November 2011 with responsibility for the group’s operational property teams both in the UK and continental Europe. Andy’s role is to oversee the maximisation of total property return from the portfolio and is accountable for the group’s relationship management of its 1,400 customers, leasing and asset management activities as well as the group’s development programme. Andy was previously managing director, continental Europe for two years, responsible for managing SEGRO’s €2bn portfolio. Prior to this he was director of corporate acquisitions, a role in which he was responsible for major transactions in the UK. He went on to become business development director, responsible for identifying opportunities for SEGRO in new markets and developing new customer relationships. IAN HEPPLEWHITE HEPPLEWHITE, senior projects manager, Vantec Europe Ian has been part of Vantec Europe – the logistics arm of Nissan – for 13 years. The company, growing at the same fast pace as its main customer, has doubled its European size and sales since 2011, boasts a £40 million turnover, award-winning facilities and a sustainable future with car giant Nissan. Ian leads on the company’s expansion projects, which have included a £21 million property investment in Sunderland (winning it the 2014 SHD Logistics New Facility Award), as well as new growth projects across continental Europe and the rest of the UK.
