After graduating from Northville High School, Allan
completed his studies at Oakland University in 1980.
He joined Nordhaus Research in Southfield, Michigan
and became a partner after four years. In 1996, Allan
was selected as one of Crain’s 40 Under 40, a program
sponsored by Crain’s Business Detroit magazine recognizing
influential businesspeople in the Detroit area who are less
than 40 years old. In December of 1999, Allan formed his
own company, A&K Research, to better focus on the needs of
his long-standing client base. Allan moved the A&K offices
from Dearborn to downtown Northville in November 2013.

Northville Art House 9th Annual
Member Exhibition
February 6-27, 2015

Be a pART of it! The Northville Art House is proud to present its 9th Annual
Member Exhibition showcasing over 70 works of art in this all-media, nonjuried member show.
This exhibition was developed to showcase local talent and to say “thank you”
to everyone who is supporting the growth and creativity of the arts in our
community. New, emerging and experienced artists come together to present
some of their favorite works of art in this highly anticipated exhibition.
This exhibit will open with an artist reception on Friday, February 6, from 6-9
pm and will continue through February 27 during Art House Gallery hours
(Tues-Fri, 12-5 pm and Saturdays 12-4 pm). For additional information, call

at 215 W. Cady Street and is a facility of the Northville Arts Commission.
Admission to Art House exhibits is always free and open to the public.
12th Annual Firefighters Ball
The Northville Township Firefighters Charity Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
organization, is excited to announce their 12th Annual Fireman’s Ball on
Saturday, February 14, 2015. Last year was the largest event to date with over
420 attendees. The evening will be filled with dinner, drinks, and dancing and
provides the perfect night out for Valentine’s Day. The event will feature live,
silent and raffle auctions to raise money for local causes. Dan Miller of Fox 2
Sports and the Voice of the Detroit Lions will serve as emcee for the evening,
with live entertainment provided by C.O.D. and the Killer Flamingos.
Over the last 11 years, recipients of the charitable contributions have included:
injured and fallen firefighters and police officers and their families, the Muscular
Dystrophy Association (MDA), Northville Civic Concern, the University of
Michigan Trauma Burn Center, Northville Public Schools, the Main Street
League, the Make-a-Wish Foundation, Northville Parks and Recreation,
the Salvation Army, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the Northville
Goodfellows, as well as many, many others.

ROCHELLE RILEY’S columns have appeared in the Detroit Free Press and at www.
freep.com since 2000. She also blogs at www.rochelleriley.com and makes frequent
television and radio appearances, especially on NPR.
Rochelle writes passionately about responsible government, community responsibility,
public education, pop rochelle 7culture, race, film and Michigan’s reading crisis. She
has helped raise more than $1 million for Michigan literacy causes. She has worked
at The Dallas Morning News, The Washington Post and The Courier-Journal in
Louisville, Ky., where her 1996 debut column, which called for a museum honoring
Louisville native Muhammad Ali, helped spur an $80 million campaign to build the
Muhammad Ali Center, which opened in 2005.
Rochelle won the 2013 National Headliner Award for best column, received the
inaugural Will Rogers Humanitarian Award for community service from the National
Society of Newspaper Columnists and has received multiple first-place column-writing
honors from the National Association of Black Journalists and the Michigan Associated
Press Media Editors. The Michigan Press Association has named Rochelle Michigan’s
best local columnist three times. In 2014, Hour magazine readers named her Detroit’s
best female columnist for the fifth year in a row. And her columns about former Mayor
Kwame Kilpatrick were part of the entry that won the 2009 Pulitzer Prize in Local
Reporting.
She was a 2007-2008 Knight-Wallace Fellow at the University of Michigan, where she
studied online communities and film. She is a sought-after public speaker and raises
funds for literacy through the Every December Fundraiser for Literacy, which will be
held on December 11, 2015.

NORTHVILLE CITY NEWS Business Licenses – The 2015 City business license renewals are due. By
City ordinance, all businesses (commercial, retail, and office) are required to
register with the City. Basic information of the business is required prior to
the issuance of the license. Additionally, telephone numbers are requested to
be used in case of an emergency, which might occur after business hours. The
fee for a new business license is $35; renewal license fee is $25 (late renewals
are subject to a double renewal fee). Please see or call the Business Licensing
Clerk at (248) 349-1300.
Personal Property Tax Statements – Personal Property Tax is self-reported
and is a tax paid by businesses on machinery, equipment, furnishings, and
other similar items used in a business. 2015 Personal Property Statements are
mailed in Mid- January. This mandatory Statement is requested to be filed by
February 1, 2015. However, if no Statement is received by February 20, 2015
by 4:30 pm, the Assessor must determine a value for the business and this value
will stand as filed, with no recourse for appeal.

If your property has a True Cash Value of less than $80,000, you may be eligible
for exemption of personal property taxes for 2015. Contact the City Assessor’s
Office at 248-449-9901 to file the required Affidavit by February 10, 2015.
Property Taxes – The last day to pay the winter taxes without penalty and
interest is February 17, 2015 at 4:30 pm. All unpaid summer and winter 2014
taxes, including penalty and interest, will be turned over to the County as delinquent on March 2, 2015. You can now verify payment of your taxes online

Dog Licenses – 2015 dog license are now available. 2014 dog licenses expire
on February 28, 2015. The cost of a dog license is $9 (spayed/neutered) and
$12 (unaltered). On March 1st, an additional $5 late fee will be added to the
cost of each license. Early renewal is appreciated! For more information,

City Hall Hours – City Hall will be closed Monday, February 16, 2015
(Presidents’ Day). The City Council meeting normally scheduled for the third
Monday of the month is rescheduled for Tuesday, February 17, 2015.
