Rolling stock and components are affected by a variety of factors during daily use. To counter the potential
consequences, it is essential that freight wagons and their component parts are regularly overhauled.
Freight wagon safety and availability is vital for the smooth operation of rail freight services. Regular overhauls are one of
the main ways of ensuring that rolling stock is safe and available. The Bellinzona workshop is responsible for carrying
out heavy maintenance on 17,000 freight wagons. Each year we complete 2,300 overhauls, 900 modifications and 500 repairs and we recondition 20,000 wheel sets for freight wagons, passenger coaches and locomotives.
Our services.
As a general contractor, we will handle all the heavy maintenance work on your behalf – from maintenance planning to
delivery of inspected vehicles ready for operation. We repair or overhaul individual vehicles or entire fleets. Our freight wagon
portfolio includes the following types:

• Low-floor piggyback wagons for RoLA (‘rolling highway’) services

All Swiss freight wagons must comply with noise reduction legislation by 2015. So far our depots have applied noise control
measures to more than 5,000 freight wagons of the following types: Snps, Fansu, Hbbillns, Falls, Eanos, Res, Eaos, Uacs,
Habils, Hbilsvy, Hbis, Hbisww, Rs, Sps, Ks, Shimmns (Y25), Tbis, Xas 62, Xas 53, Xas 52, Xas 50. Work on the following
types is planned: Tgpps, Shimms, Xs 72, Xas 73, Sgns, Sdgns, Sdgmns, Sdkmms.
Integrated solutions.
As a general overhaul contractor, we carry out the entire process for you and, in addition to the overhaul itself, we provide
the following services:
• Professional project management for coordinating major contracts by the various SBB works
• Competent technical support in the development of overhaul programmes
• Integration of work plans and schedules with modern PPS solutions
• Spare parts management: procurement, storage and transportation, with expert advice on part procurement
• Maintaining vehicle history databases
• Producing operating instructions and setting up a sound, user-oriented QA record system
