The
Watch
(GRAND ENDEAVOUR 78WT)
This page intentionally left blank.
Thank you for purchasing the Grand Endeavour 78WT. It is one of a limited edition of
200 watches produced for the World Time series of the ACS Watch Project.
The ACS Watch Project is an initiative undertaken by the 1978 ACS cohort to fund
bursaries that help underprivileged students remain in the ACS schools family. Two
types of bursary were set up and funded by the cohort since 2008 -one in the cohort's
name and another in honour of the late Mr Earnest Lau who was principal of ACS Barker
Road in 1978. The aim of the bursaries is to provide assistance to students with financial
needs regardless of age, race, religion or scholastic performance. Each bursary is open
for application every academic year to current students enrolled in any ACS school in
Singapore.
The Class of 1978 Organizing Committee deliberates annually on the award of the
bursaries to applicants from the various ACS campuses. By sharing God's grace with the
students, it is hoped that they will learn to honour God, to honour their teachers and to
cherish the bonds they fostered during their time in ACS.
The proceeds of the ACS Watch project will help perpetuate these bursaries and
increase their number of recipients annually.
The ACS Watch Story
Since the founding of ACS in 1886, there has never been a project commissioning bespoke
quality watches. Each ACS Watch is made with solid stainless steel body to withstand water
up to 20 ATM, a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass face, and embellished with
customized ACS crown, buckle, dial, and case back.
At the heart of the ACS Watch is a high-quality Japanese movement from Seiko Instruments
Inc. (SII). The specifications of the Calibre NH36 mechanical movement are as follows:
Winding Mechanism:
Manual and automatic winding with ball bearing.
Function:
Day & date display with quick day & date correction.
Jewels:
24 Jewels.
Accuracy:
-25 ~ +40 seconds per day (23 ± 2 C).
Shock Resistance:
Shock-absorber device for balance staff.
Vibration Frequency:
6 vibrations per second (21,600 vibrations per hour).
Duration Time:
More than 41 hours.
Antimagnetic:
DC:
4800 A/m.
Operating Procedure
DO NOT attempt to adjust your watch under wet condition or with wet hands. Loosening the
crown under such conditions may compromise the water tightness of the watch.
1. Hold watch with the dial facing up. Unscrew the crown in a
counter clockwise (downwards) direction until the crown is
fully loosened and in normal position. At normal position, turn
the crown clockwise (upwards) to manually wind the watch.
The NH36 movement is also automatically self-winding when
you move your arm naturally while wearing the watch.
2. From normal position, gently pull the crown out
to the first click and turn it clockwise (upwards)
to adjust the day of the week, and counter
clockwise (downwards) to adjust the date.
Gently pull the crown out to second click and
turn it clockwise (upwards) to adjust the time.
Please note that the NH36 movement has dual language (English and French) Day markers.
Whichever language you choose to display when you set your watch between 3 am and 12
midnight will be set as the preferred language. However, the name of day in the alternative
language will still be briefly displayed between 12.50 am and 3 am. This is not a malfunction.
DO NOT set your preferred language day selection between 12.50 am and 3 am.
3. When finished adjusting your
watch, push the crown firmly
inwards. While applying light
inward pressure on the crown,
screw back the crown onto the
case gently in a clockwise
(upwards) direction until it is
firmly secured to ensure water
tightness. DO NOT use force to
over tighten the crown.
World Time
The bezel of the Grand Endeavour 78WT has been inscribed with a combination of city and
country abbreviations in their respective time zones. This bezel is not fixed but may be
manually rotated to the left only. DO NOT force it to turn to the right. When a chosen country
(e.g. Japan) has only one time zone regardless of its various cities, the country name is used
to represent that particular time zone. When a country covers more than one time zone (e.g.
USA), one or more of its major cities will be used to represent the respective time zones.
The 3-letter IATA destination abbreviation convention is used where cities are indicated, and
the IOC country abbreviation convention is used where countries are indicated. The
combination of city/country names on the bezel and the 24-hour marker on the dial lets you
know the approximate time of each location. Please note the section on Daylight Saving Time
below.

Daylight Saving Time
Daylight saving time (“DST”) is a system adopted by some countries to make the best use of
daylight during a certain period in summer. Under this system the local time is advanced by
one hour in spring for the longer days of summer, and it is adjusted back one hour again in
autumn to account for the shorter daylight hours in the coming winter. Countries that adopt
this system may have different effective dates.
To find the current time in another location, identify the location that you are currently in as
indicated on the rotating bezel. Please refer to the Time Zone Table below for a complete
listing of the respective cities or countries engraved on the rotating bezel. Align your current
location marker on the bezel to the current local time hour of the 24-hour marker indicated
on the dial by rotating the bezel in a counter-clockwise direction (to the left).
You can then read the current hour of the desired location from the alignment of the other
location marker to the corresponding 24-hour marker on the dial. The minute and second
hands are the same in all locations. The Grand Endeavour 78WT does not account for certain
time zones that are less than 1 hour apart.
For example: It is now 10.24 am in Singapore in October and you would like to know
the local time in New York City. DST is NOT in effect in New York City.
Turn the bezel counter-clockwise (to
the left) until the “SIN” marker is
aligned with 1000 hours on the 24hour marker of the watch dial. The
NYC marker rests on 2100 hours. This
is the hour in “NYC”, the minute and
second will be the same as in “SIN”. It
is 9.24 pm on the previous night in
New York City.
For example: However, if the above example is to be in May and DST is in effect in
New York City, then you need to add 1 hour to the local time there. It is
10.24 pm on the previous night in New York City. Alternatively, you may
also read off the next marker to the right (i.e. “CHI” for Chile) as the
time in “NYC”.
