year are April 12th for Pioneer District and April
26th for Northeast District.
WAP Spring Ordeal May 16-18, 2014
The Chapter Spring Ordeal will be held
from May 16-18, 2014 at Camp Belzer.
The Ordeal Master will be James Coulter.
All WAP Arrowmen are encouraged to
come participate! Attend a Chapter Meeting March
20, April 17, or May 16 to learn more or to
volunteer for staff. You can also email the Chapter
at [email protected] to let us know you are
interested in attending and serving! Don’t forget to
encourage Ordeal Candidates from your unit to
attend!
Are You Ready for Brotherhood?
Seal your membership in the Order of the Arrow by
becoming a Brotherhood member! The Chapter
will hold a Brotherhood review and Ceremony at
both the May and August Ordeals. If you have been
active in your troop and a member of the OA for at
least 10 months, you are encouraged to become a
Brotherhood member! Requirements are in your OA
Handbook.
Order of the Arrow Representatives
There are many fun and
exciting events coming up
in the Order of the Arrow
this year! The Lodge and
the Chapter would like to
have a high attendance of
Arrowman at all events.
They would also like new
Arrowman and in some cases, old, to get active
within the OA. In order to do this they need Troop
OA Representatives to spread the word of OA
events and meetings within their troops.
If you are currently your Troop’s OA
Representative, please send an E-mail with your
name, troop number, and district to the Chapter
email at [email protected].
Remember that the position of Troop OA
Representative is an official leadership position for
rank advancement. OA Reps should be active in
both their troop and their Chapter and act as liaison
between them.
2014 Vigil Nominations due
The Vigil Honor is reserved for those Arrowmen
who, by reason of exceptional service, personal
effort, and unselfish interest, have made
distinguished contributions beyond the immediate
responsibilities of their position or office to one or
more of the following: their lodge, the Order of the
Arrow, Scouting, or their Scout Camp. The
candidate must be a registered member of the Boy
Scouts of America AND a due-paid member of the
Lodge. To nominate someone for the Vigil Honor,
the nominator must fill out and submit a completed
National Vigil Petition AND a Vigil Guide Form.
All nomination and guide forms, available at
www.jaccostownelodge.org, are due at the March
16, 2014 LEC to either the Vigil Chair or the Vigil
Adviser. The Vigil Selection Meeting will start at
3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 6th.
All Chapters are asked to send two members who
are either Vigil Honor members or not yet eligible
for Vigil.
If possible, at least one of the
representatives should be a Vigil. The committee
would like the names of these Arrowmen by the
March LEC.
Chapter Continues
Ronald McDonald House
Service Project
The Chapter collects pop tabs for the Ronald
McDonald House as a service project. Bring your
tabs to Ordeals or Chapter meetings and make sure
you record the number you have turned in.
If you are not familiar with the Ronald McDonald
House, they exist to provide a home-away-fromhome for families of children who are being treated
in area hospitals, primarily Riley Hospital for
Children. Since its opening in 1982, the Ronald
McDonald House of Indiana has served more than
30,000 families from across Indiana, the U.S., and
the world.

Troop OA Elections
All Boy Scout Troops and Varsity Teams are
allowed and encouraged to hold OA Elections.
Youth qualifications include:
1. A Boy Scout or Varsity Scout who holds the
First Class rank, is under the age of 21, and is
registered as an active member of the troop or
team may, with the approval of his unit leader,
be nominated for election. Prior to the annual
election, the unit leader must certify the
nominee's Scout spirit and youth membership
qualifications.
2. After registration with a troop or team, have
experienced 15 days and nights of Boy Scout
camping during the two-year period prior to the
election. The 15 days and nights must include
one, but no more than one, long-term camp
consisting of six consecutive days and five
nights of resident camping, approved and under
the auspices and standards of the Boy Scouts of
America. The balance of the camping must be
overnight, weekend, or other short-term camps.
3. Voting for youth candidates will be based on
their spirit of brotherhood, cheerfulness (no
matter how tiresome their duties), and a
willingness to give unselfish and wholehearted
service to others at all times.
Each year, upon holding a troop or team election for
youth candidates which results in at least one youth
candidate being elected, the unit committee may
nominate registered unit adults (age 21 or over) to
the lodge adult selection committee. The number of
adults nominated can be no more than one-third of
the number of youth candidates elected, rounded up
where the number of youth candidates is not a
multiple of three. In addition to the one-third limit,
the unit committee may nominate the currentlyserving unit leader (but not assistant leaders), as
long as he or she has served as unit leader for at
least the previous 12 months. Recommendations of
the adult selection committee, with the approval of
the Scout executive, serving as Supreme Chief of
the Fire, will be candidates for induction, provided
all conditions are fulfilled.
