2015 Alaska and Brooks Falls

Southeastern Alaska and Brooks Falls Itinerary August 22 – 31, 2015
10 Days – limited to 8 People (6 people minimum required)
Day 1 - August 22, 2015 – arrive in Ketchikan (activities to be announced upon arrival – weather depending we will visit
Totem Heritage Center, Creek Street and other historic sites) - Dinner
Day 2 - August 23, 2015 Ketchikan – in the morning we will board our private boat for the next five nights B,L,D
Day 3-6 - August 24-27, 2015 -- Over the next days we will be cruising and the plan is to visit Neets Bay for black bears,
Behm Canal, Wrangell Island, and into Fredrick Sound to view Humpback whales. August is an excellent time to see
whales. They are at their maximum population level late in the summer. Bubble net feeding and breaching of course what
we always hope for, but it is all up to chance. We will try to visit LeConte Glacier, either Dawes or LeConte. We might
charter a jet boat to get to LeConte glacier early or late in the day for better lighting. These days are filled with activities
and depending on the wildlife we are going to see I don’t like to put a fixed schedule down. When we see something, we
will go for it. Our boat is small enough to get us close to the seals, whales, birds, bears and other sites. A friend of mine
chartered the boat last year and he is going back this year. He liked it so much. Our captain is an artist and knows about
photography. He likes to have people interested in photography best. More details to follow. B,L,D
Day 7 - August 28, 2015
-- In the morning we will fly from Petersburg to Anchorage to Katmai Adventure Lodge
Day 8 – 9 - August 29-30, 2015 We will spend two days at Brooks Falls to photograph bears fishing for salmon. We are
NOT staying at Brooks Camp which does not offer the high quality as our lodge. At the camp we would need to split up
into male/female groups and share a cabin with 4 people. Staying at the lodge, you can experience the Alaskan vacation
of a lifetime. Bear viewing, kayaking, hiking, flight seeing, fishing, beach combing, and rafting are all accessible day trips
from the lodge.
The beautiful log lodge is right at river’s edge, with views in every direction. Each of the well-appointed guest rooms has
its own bathroom with hot water, showers, and flushing toilets - luxuries not always found in remote lodge, and good
home cooked meals.
In order to see the bears at Brooks Falls, we will take a 10 minute seaplane ride, which gives us good opportunities for
some aerial photography. B,L,D
