They will also discuss ways to utilize these videos in pre-service teacher education programs and in-service teacher professional development. OPTION 3 Modeling Matters! Implementing Modeling in Meaningful Ways Room: 2112 (Facilitator: Melissa Granados) Presenters: Dr. Tracie McLemore Salinas, Associate Professor, Appalachian State University (ASU) Dr. Todd Abel, Assistant Professor, ASU Description: In this session, the presenters have a framework for implementing modeling tasks in the classroom and findings from cross-sector discussion about the priorities of and challenges of modeling in the math classroom. OPTION 4 INCOME – Integrating Computing and Mathematics Education Room: 2116 (Facilitator: Sheri Zuhrung) Presenters: Dr. Mahnaz Moallem, Professor of Instructional Technology and Research, University of North Carolina – Wilmington (UNC-W) Dr. Sridhar Narayan, Professor of Computer Science, UNC-W Mr. Chris Gordon, Assistant Director, Center for Education in STEM (CSTEM) Description: The session will explore the impact of the INCOME Project and its professional development model and strategies on mathematics teachers’ practices and perception. In addition, it will use simulation and modeling projects that were developed collaboratively by the teachers and the project team to demonstrate how mathematics, computing and Common Core State Standards were integrated.
