Financial Spring Cleaning
The onset of spring is the perfect time for a thorough spring cleaning. Recently,
I spent an afternoon cleaning out my garage. As I labored over a year’s worth of junk, I
began to think how beneficial it is to spring clean your finances. Just like the junk in your
garage there are cobwebs in your financial portfolio too.
Weeding out false information on your credit report is one way to spruce up your
financial portfolio. A credit report is a detailed list of your credit and bill repayment
history. Make sure that all the accounts listed in the report are in good standing and
call the bureau to dispute any inaccuracies that you find. The Fair Credit Reporting Act
requires that each national credit bureau provide you with a free copy of your credit report
every year. To get your free credit report visit annualcreditreport.com or call 1-877-3228228.
Another way to organize your finances is to simplify your bill paying habits.
Members who have a Members CU Checking Account are eligible to sign up for our free
online bill paying service, eBill. You can create payee profiles for all your monthly bills
and receive notifications when a new bill is ready to be viewed online. Pay a bill one time,
or schedule your payments for an entire year. Not only will you eliminate the need to buy
stamps and envelopes, but you don’t have to enter your personal information into all of
your payee’s separate websites. You just need to keep up with one set of login credentials
for eBill.
Accumulating frivolous credit cards can clutter up your personal finances. My
advice is to close the accounts that you don’t need. Too many credit cards can be a hazard.
Not only is there more temptation to overspend, but the potential to have a credit card
stolen is greater. Narrow down your credit cards and keep one or two that are widely
accepted. Consider keeping one of your longest held credit cards open. Closing all of your
older credit card accounts will shorten your credit history and this could count against the
strength of your credit score.
If your finances are hurting due to significant credit card debt Members CU can
help you manage it with a Debt Consolidation Loan. Finance up to
$15,000 of non-MCU related debt into one affordable fixed rate
loan.
Take the time to organize your finances, streamline
your bill payment process and consolidate debt. Once you have
eliminated financial clutter your financial future is sure to sparkle.
Thank you for your support and membership.

Third Annual Wig Walk in Caldwell County
Members CU sponsored the first Wig Walk in 2012 to raise money for
the Wig Bank of Caldwell County, a non profit cancer services center that
provides prosthetic wigs for cancer patients, promotes the importance of
cancer screenings, and provides funds to cancer patients for transportation to
cancer treatment centers. Since the first Wig Walk in Lenoir, Members CU
has held two more Wig Walks for the Caldwell County and Catawba County
Wig Banks. Thanks to overwhelming community support, we raised a total of
$16,300 that helped these organizations serve cancer patients in Western North
Carolina.
The need to help cancer patients is still great. We live in a state that is

Members CU Annual Charity Golf Tournament
On Friday, May 2, 2014 Members CU will hold its annual Charity Golf Tournament at the Salem Glen Golf
and Country Club in Clemmons, NC. This year’s tournament will benefit two very worthy causes. The proceeds will
be divided equally between the Members CU Scholarship Fund and The Wig Walk that supports both the Wig Bank of
Caldwell County and The Catawba County Wig Bank.
Members CU invites you and your company to join us as a sponsor to help support these two worthy causes. There are
three levels of sponsorship. As a Platinum, Gold or Silver Sponsor, you will receive recognition and other benefits at the Golf
Tournament. Please contact Eric Stiff if you would like to register to play or sponsor a hole. Call 800-951-8000, ext 134 or email
him at [email protected].
About Members CU’s Scholarship Fund: Established in 1996 to provide funds to
help members further their education. Thanks to participants and sponsors of last year’s
Charity Golf Tournament, Members CU awarded 12 scholarships to members, totaling
$13,000 for the 2013-2014 academic year.
About The Wig Walk: An annual event held in Caldwell and Catawba
County that supports each county’s local Wig Bank. Details about our upcoming Wig
Walk in Lenoir on May 10th are available on page two of this newsletter and at memcu.

El Rincón Latino: Mundial de Fútbol
Se acerca la Copa Mundial de
Fútbol de la FIFA en Brasil en Junio de
este año. Nuestro equipo de los Estados
Unidos volvió a clasificar y vamos a
Buena suerte.

Members CU held a Financial
Reality Fair at Carter G.
Woodson, in Winston-Salem for
30 fifth graders. The students

income they were challenged
to buy everything their family
needed for a month while
staying within their budget.
In the picture above Rob Semar, Internal Auditor for Members CU, guides
students through the portion of the program where they are to choose how
