William H. Thompson Scholars Summer School Funding Information

William H. Thompson Scholars Summer School Funding Information
Interested in Summer School? There are a few things to be aware of. Summer term awards will be treated as any
other term when calculating awards except that there is no minimum enrollment status requirement during the
summer term. When calculating your potential summer award please refer to the examples below for a better
understanding of how it works.
For example: If you take 1-2 credit hours at UNL you will receive $531.25 for summer school, that is including tuition
and book funds. If you take one 3 credit hour course at UNL at the rate of $216.00 per credit hour (note some
colleges have a different tuition rate), you will receive $648.00 for summer towards tuition. The maximum you can
receive for taking 3 credits at this rate will be $1,062.50 (that’s including costs of your books). Please note that you
may have to pay up to $804.00 (at $268/credit) if you’re taking classes in the Business College, meaning that you will
ultimately receive less towards books (only $258.50) since your maximum still remains $1,062.50.
Again, there is no minimum amount of credits that you need to take during the summer. You can take courses at
any of the public, state institutions in Nebraska.
SUMMER COURSES AT UNL
If you intend to take courses at UNL be aware there are 4 different summer sessions to choose from.
Pre-Session: May 19- June 6th
8-Week Session: May 19th - July 11th
1st 5-Week Session: June 9th-July 11th
nd
2 5-Week Session: July 14th – August 14th
1. You will need to register for class(s) first.
2. Fill out the Summer Financial Aid form on MyRed. To do this, click the Financial Aid tab which is in your
Student Center page on the top tabs. Then on the right-hand side under Manage, there is a link for the
Summer Aid Application. Please register for courses first, and then fill this sheet out so that the number of
credits is accurate. By filling this form out, the Foundation will be notified that you are taking Summer
courses at UNL
SUMMER COURSES AT UNO, UNK, OR UNMC
If you plan to take courses at UNO, UNK, or UNMC, you must
1. Fill out the inter-campus form, so you can register for the courses. To fill out the inter-campus form, please
go to https://intercampus.nebraska.edu/pre_inter_campus.aspx
2. Once you fill that out, the University will process your request and then you will be able to register for
courses for that term through MyRed.
3. Fill out the Funds for Another School Form under the Student Resources tab on our website
www.unl.edu/wht. Please submit this form 2 weeks prior to the beginning of the summer session.
Funding at UNO, UNK, or UNMC varies greatly from UNL. Therefore the calculations below are just
estimates. Please make sure to contact the school itself and ask about any additional fees and costs. Note
that the amounts for books may not be as high as they are at UNL and will vary between institutions.
For example: If you take one 3 credit hour course at UNO at the rate of $196.75 per credit hour, you will pay
$590.25 for tuition. Since you can have up to $1,062.50 total for taking between 3 and 5 credits, the remaining
$472.25 will go towards your books/supplies. However, if you are taking classes at UNO College of Engineering
your tuition rate will be $309.50 which would take your tuition rate to $928.50 with only $134 remaining towards
books and other educational necessities.
Example 2: If you are taking two 3 credit hour courses at UNO at the rate of $196.75 per credit hour, you will pay
$1,180.50 in tuition. Understand that this amount will come out of the maximum of $2,2125.00 (or the maximum
you receive for taking between 6 and 8 credits).
Example 3 and 4: If you are taking three 3 credit hour courses at UNO at the rate of $196.75 per credit hour, you
will pay $1,770.75 in tuition. Understand that this amount will come out of the maximum of $3,187.50 (or the
maximum you receive for taking between 9 and 11 credits).
And finally, if you are taking four 3 credit hour courses at UNO you will pay $2,361.00 in tuition and will receive up
to $4,250 total towards the cost of your summer course expenses (including tuition).
SUMMER COURSES AT OTHER INSTITUTIONS
If you intend to go to any other institution (community college or one of the state college institutions) you need to
1. Register for the course at that school (contact them to determine how to enroll)
2. Fill out the Funds for Another School Form under the Student Resources tab on our website
www.unl.edu/wht. Please submit this form 2 weeks prior to the beginning of the summer session.
Southeast Community College and Metropolitan Community College:
Funding at institutions other than UNL varies greatly. Therefore the calculations below are just
estimates. Please make sure to contact the school itself and ask about any additional fees and costs. Note
that the amounts for books may not be as high as they are at UNL and will vary between institutions.
For example: if you take one 4.5 credit hour course at SCC at the rate of $255.38, you will receive a maximum of
$600.00 towards your tuition and feeds. At MCC you will pay $53.00 per credit hour, so that means if you take a 3
credit course at MCC you will pay $159.00 in tuition and the remaining $141 (out of the total of $300 allotted for
students taking 3-5 credits at MCC) will go towards your supplies and books.
Please apply the same calculation to taking multiple classes. For example if you take two 4.5 credit courses at SCC
you will pay $510.76 in tuition and with a maximum award of $900.00, the remaining $389.24 towards any additional
costs such as books and supplies.
Other Community Colleges:
For example: If you take one 3 credit course at Central Community College in Kearney you will pay $90.00 per
credit hour, so that means if you take a 3 credit course at MCC you will pay $270.00 in tuition and the remaining
$180.00 (out of the total of $450 allotted for students taking 3-5 credits at CCC) will go towards your supplies and
books.
