Keith Covert MW vice president In your contract Holiday weekend OT voluntary A re you making plans for Thanksgiving weekend? Keep in mind holiday weekend OT is voluntary per the SPEEA contracts for Boeing Profs, Techs and the Wichita Engineering Unit (WEU) and Wichita Technical and Professional Unit (WTPU) at Spirit AeroSystems. Excerpt from the contracts: “All overtime on a holiday … or on the weekend which immediately precedes a Monday holiday or immediately follows a Friday holiday shall be voluntary…” Area Rep recognition – P2 See your contract for details (online at www.speea.org) • SPEEA Prof and Tech contracts: Letter of Understanding (LOU) 22 • SPEEA WEU and WTPU contracts: Article 10.8(a) SPEEA offices close Nov. 27-28 for the holiday. ‘Step up’ a success – P3 EATTLE - About two dozen SPEEA members who worked a portion of the year in Seattle are receiving an increase in accrued sick-leave hours. SPEEA caught a mistake in the Boeing process associated with the implementation of the city’s mandatory paid sick leave ordinance. The impacted employees were inadvertently shorted sick leave when the hours transitioned from “current” to “unused” sick leave in the Boeing system if those employees were coded as having worked in Seattle during at least part of the year. Only certain accrual/usage patterns resulted in the shortage; hence, the impact was limited to a small percentage of those working in Seattle. “It took a while to convince Boeing that their implementation was erroneous under certain conditions, but eventually we worked together to correct the sick leave balances,” said President Ryan Rule who uncovered the mistake. Adjustments range from two to 25 hours of additional sick leave. Boeing has adjusted its system to account for employees working portions of time in Seattle. EEOC continues investigating Boeing T he Seattle Field Office of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is actively investigating SPEEA’s class action age-discrimination complaint against The Boeing Company. Many SPEEA members also filed individual Charges of Discrimination. The EEOC has assigned a lead investigator to coordinate investigation of both the class-wide and individual charges.
