Fast connect to the WSI wireless network - TAFE NSW

Wireless Access Guide
This document will show you how to connect to the Western Sydney Institute wireless network
to browse the internet. Wireless internet coverage is available in all library areas and in most
locations in the college.
You will require:
A wireless capable device
Your valid DEC username and current password
These instructions (overleaf):
A. How to connect to Western Sydney Institute Wireless.
B. Configuring proxy settings

Contact Customer Service or Library Staff for assistance
Troubleshooting:
If you cannot connect to the internet after configuring the proxy settings and entering your
current DEC username and password, please check the settings again for any typing errors, etc.

Windows Connection
1. Select the wireless Icon
2. Select “detnsw”
3. Click “Connect”
found in the bottom right hand corner
4. When Prompted for network authentication enter DEC Username with @detnsw at the
end, EG: John.smith@detnsw and current password.
5. A windows alert prompt will appear. Click connect
6. Computer will now be connected to detnsw wireless network.

7. Click on Internet explorer icon.
8. User will be prompted for proxy authentication settings. Eg: john.smith and current DEC
password
9. User will now be able to access the internet.
NOTE: If user is unable to connect to the internet, follow the proxy setup steps
Apple connection – iPhone / iPad
1. Select "settings"
2. Select "Wi-Fi"
3. Select the blue arrow next to "detnsw"
4. Scroll down to "HTTP Proxy" and select "Auto"
5. Enter the following address
http://pac.det.nsw.edu.au/tafe/wsi.pac
6. Select "Wi-Fi" networks to return to WIFI selection screen
7. You will be prompted to enter username and password.
8. The correct syntax is; DEC User ID@detnsw (John.smith1@detnsw), Dec Portal Password
9. You will be prompted to accept a certification for client authentication. (accept)
10. You will now be connected to "detnsw"
Note: When you change your password you will need to “Forget this Network” and follow these
instructions again to connect with your new password

Android connection
Due to multiple varieties of Android Operating System and devices we are unable to provide
complete connection instructions . You will be required to find the closest related possibility to
the option listed below.
1. Select “Settings”
2. Select “Wi-Fi settings”
3. Select “detnsw”
4. Scroll down to “Identity”
5. Enter DET username@detnsw (john.smith1@detnsw)
6. Enter Password (DEC portal password)
7. In Proxy setting, Select “Manual”
Note: If you cannot see the proxy settings please select advance option first, then go proxy
setting and select manual
8. Enter in Hostname “proxy.det.nsw.edu.au”
9. Enter 8080 in the proxy port
10. Click OK
11. You will now be connected to “detnsw”
Note: When you change your password you will need to “Forget this network” and follow these
instructions again to connect with your new password.
To forget the network, go back to Wi-Fi settings and click on “detnsw”. This will give you the
option to forget network
