Sunday, November 9, 2014
1:00 – 3:00 PM
Accomplished pianist and teacher Yong Hi Moon made her solo
debut with the Seoul Philharmonic at age 10 as winner of the
National Korean Broadcasting Competition. Ms. Moon has won
top prizes in the Elena-Rombro Stepanow Competition in
Vienna, the Viotti International Competition in Vercelli, Italy,
the Vienna da Motta Competition in Lisbon, Portugal and
received the Chopin Prize from the Geneva International
Competition in Switzerland.
Ms. Moon performs extensively throughout Asia, Europe and the
US as recitalist and soloist, having appeared with the Osaka,
Seoul, Tokyo, Philharmonics, and the Korean National
Symphony. In 1975, the South Korean government invited Ms.
Moon to participate in a festival for the 30th anniversary of the Korean liberation, and she continues to maintain a strong performing
and teaching presence in her native country. In 1991, she was invited to participate in a cycle of the complete Mozart piano concerti
with the Bu-Chon Philharmonic Orchestra, commemorating the composer's bicentennial year. In 1997, Ms. Moon performed the
complete solo piano works of Schubert in six recitals in both Korea and the US. In the summer of 2000, she made her first extensive
concert tour of Korea, including solo recitals in five cities, as well as performances with the orchestras of Kwangju and Daejun.
She collaborates regularly with her husband - pianist/conductor Dai Uk Lee - in duo piano concerts and has performed under his baton
with the Busan, Bu-Chon and Ulsan Philharmonics and the Michigan State University Symphony Orchestra. Most recently, they
performed Olivier Messiaen’s Visions de l’Amen in both the US and Korea. Their CD recording on the Music and Art label of Czech
four-hand piano music has received outstanding critical acclaim.
Ms. Moon is in high demand as a guest master class teacher and adjudicator. In 1993, she released a popular teaching video in Korea
entitled Artistic Piano Playing. Ms. Moon has been a regular faculty member at Shandelee, Aria, Prague, Bowdoin Summer Festivals
and Valencia Piano Academy. In addition, she has been invited to perform and conduct master classes at Chautauqua Summer Festival
in New York and the International School for Musical Arts in Canada. She has served on the juries of the CCC Toronto International
Piano Competition, Senigallia International Piano Competition in Italy, Gilmore International Piano Competition, Gina Bachauer
International Competition as well as numerous MTNA competitions throughout the US. This past March, she served as the chair of the
jury at Seoul International Piano Competition. Ms. Moon was a professor of piano at Michigan State University School of Music for
fifteen years and since 2002 she has been a member of piano faculty at Peabody Institute.
Ms. Moon studied at the Vienna Academy, graduating with the highest honors. She continued her studies in London before pursuing
an Artist Diploma at Indiana University in Bloomington. Her major teachers include Dieter Weber, Maria Curcio, György Sebok, Leon
Fleisher, Wilhelm Kempff and Fou T’song, who have always been inspirations in her work.

Unique Duet Music for
All Stages and Ages
(sponsored by KJOS)
Sunday, November 9, 2014
9:15 – 10:45 AM
Dallas Weekley and Nancy Arganbright are largely
responsible for the revival of interest in one-piano, four-hand
performance, an art which began in the eighteenth century
and flourished in the Romantic era, the nineteenth century.
Largely ignored as a concert medium in the early twentieth
century, it was revived in great part by Weekley and
Arganbright (husband and wife), who made concert tours
throughout the USA and the world from 1960 to 2000. They
have presented more piano duet concerts than any other fourhand artists in the history of the medium, and are credited
with being “America’s premier one-piano, four-hand team.”
– Clavier
For forty years, Weekley and Arganbright have made concert tours of the USA for Community Concerts (a division of Columbia
Artists Management, New York), Allied Concerts (Minneapolis), and various other managers. They perform entirely from memory.
Concert tours abroad have included the major cities of England, Ireland, Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Russia, Korea, China,
and Taiwan. Their orchestral engagements have included the Minnesota Orchestra, the Dublin Symphony, the Orlan do Symphony,
and various orchestras in the Chicago, Detroit, and Washington areas. They have given concerts in Carnegie Recital Hall in New
York, and in the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, among other great halls.
The Weekleys, honor graduates of the Indiana University School of Music, taught for 28 years at the University of Wisconsin at
LaCrosse, and were given the permanent title “Treasures of the University” upon their departure from that institution. As a p art of
their interest in the music education of young people, they made several appearances on the “Captain Kangaroo” television program,
and continue to present workshops and master classes in the art of duet playing throughout the world. They are sponsors of th e
MTNA-Weekley and Arganbright Senior Piano Duet Competition, held annually at the Music Teachers National Association
conference.

many benefits for all the NJMTA members. Please do capture the once a year opportunity and register for the 2014 State Confer ence.
We are also delighted to inform you that the Conference Banquet will be held at the Conference site this year, on Saturday night right after
