This BIM competition is held annually and recognizes companies for exemplary use of BIM and Tekla Structures across four categories: “Best Use of BIM Overall”, “Engineering”, “Steel”, and “Concrete”. The winners are selected from a jury of leading BIM experts as well as a popular vote. This year marks the 11th annual competition. Wayne Brothers will receive National and Global publicity for these achievements. There will be an electronic brochure available through iBooks featuring the winners of each category. The links will be shared as soon as they become available. As a contributing partner, Harris Rebar, deserves special recognition for their innovative approach and support of our 3D processes. The high level of coordination and collaboration between WBI and Harris Rebar was a major factor in the Jury’s selection, and more importantly, the project’s success. Thank you to Harris Rebar for their contributions and support! The BB&T Ballpark project represents a large milestone for the Wayne Brothers Information Modeling (WBIM) Program. Many of the processes that were implemented, tested, and refined on this project are being used on other current projects with great success. We truly look forward to expanding our WBIM program in 2014 and providing a higher level of value to our internal and external clients. Congratulations Team! Thank you for your support of the WBIM Program! The Fast 50 businesses were selected and ranked by average revenue growth from 2010 to 2012. To qualify, companies had to have at least $1 million in revenue in 2012 and be based in the Charlotte area. The numbers were analyzed and verified by CliftonLarsonAllen, a Fast 50 partner. The recipients were honored at a luncheon at the Ritz Carlton on December 5. WBI #4 by NC Mid-Market Fast 40 Shannon Sapp accepted the award on behalf of WBI Wayne Brothers was ranked #4 in the North Carolina Mid-Market Fast 40! This is an award given by Business North Carolina that ranks the fastest growing businesses in NC based on employee and revenue growth. Last year Wayne Brothers was ranked #7. Great job, Wayne Brothers! ZERO LOST TIME! Congratulations! We have officially surpassed 2 years without a Lost Time Accident! Since January 2, 2012 WBI has worked 1,651,331 hours and 2 years without a Lost Time accident! At our current pace of safe work we would reach 2 Million hours without a Lost Time Accident around May 2014. This would be a HUGE accomplishment for our company. It will take the effort of every one of you to reach this milestone. We can reach this milestone if we all continue to watch out for and correct any unsafe act(s), unsafe behavior(s), and/or unsafe condition(s) in our work areas. “Thanks to everyone for your support in our effort to “Safely Exceed Expectations”. - Jason Sisk, Safety Director WWW.WAYNEBROTHERS.COM TTHE HE LEADING LEADING EDGE EDGE P.4 P.4 Business Development New Estimator! The Preconstruction Team welcomes Mike Picciano as the newest Estimator. Mike joins us after 7 years as a Project Engineer in our Operations Group. We are excited to have his valuable project skills and expertise to strengthen our estimating capacity. Welcome, Mike! By: Shannon Sapp Preconstruction would like to thank everyone reading this article. For if you are reading this, you had a hand in making 2013 a successful year for Wayne Brothers. We are grateful for our many successes, and we are excited to see what the coming year will bring. To help in that mission, we have developed a new Strategic Plan that builds on extreme customer focus, delivered quality, and continued growth. Our commitment to profitable growth and quality work was already rewarded to us in the past quarter with many industry awards and recognitions (including the Fast 50, Mid-Market Fast 40, ENR rankings, and Subcontractor of the Year award). Project wise, in the previous quarter Wayne Brothers maintained a consistent focus on the markets where we thrive. We continued our work in the Data Center segment with expanded building scopes in both NC & SC locations, and we recently began a new NC data center project. We have stayed active in the energy market with new work at VC Summer and with ongoing natural gas projects. With manufacturing being our strong suit, we were awarded a new project in Texas, and we began work at two lumber mill projects. Our grading division helped maintain a foot in the local Multifamily boom with the Woodfield apartments development. Lastly, we are in the final stages of completing the BB&T Ballpark and we look forward to a great baseball season. Go Knights! Many industry reports and I can concur the economy is improving and a great year lies ahead. Opportunities remain strong with new announcements daily. FMI’s recent U.S. Markets Construction Overview 2014 says we should face the rising economy with “Cautious Optimism”. Trade contractors, like ourselves, need to focus on returning revenues, increased use of technology in the field, and searching for new talent. I believe we have always taken this view as the Business Development group works to strengthen our customer relationships, our Technology Group remains progressive with new implementing new technologies, and the Training Department strives to train each employee to the highest level. All of these are good signs that we are staying ahead of the pack and creating a foundation for continual success. Speaking for everyone in Preconstruction, thanks to all our clients and partners for helping make 2013 such a success. We look forward to working together and making this coming year the best one yet. Thank You! As we enter 2014, we would like to thank all those who have made our year successful. This year was a great success in many ways, but the main success was with our current and future clients. The greatest compliment that we can be paid is when a client asks our Group back to perform repeat work. This past year, over 80% of our Grading Group’s work was for clients we had worked for in the past. Of the few that were first time clients, many of them became repeat clients by the end of the year. Our loyal clients are what sustain us but our new clients are what offer opportunities for growth. As our Group has grown, it has been a great pleasure to see the construction industry view Wayne Brothers as much as a Grading company as a Concrete company. This has happened more and more over the past year, which has led to new opportunities and the aforementioned growth. Our Group and everyone in it, just like Wayne Brothers as a whole, is eager to continue “Building The Premier Construction Services Company, while Safely Exceeding Expectiations”. As we move in to 2014, I want to thank all of our existing clients; we look forward to working for each of you as the demand arises in the new year. And for the potential clients who may be reading this but have yet to experience our Grading Group on one of their projects, we look forward to hearing from you and hopefully turning you into yet another repeat customer. Best of luck to everyone this year. It appears to have the makings of one that we have all longed for during the previous tough and lean times that we have all experienced since 2009. Thank You. Woodfield Southpark WBI’s Grading Group is completing a turnkey site package for the Woodfield Southpark project. We are in the process of hauling off over 30,000 cys of soil to ready the building pad for foundations. WBI & Vulcan help Parkview Elementary Wayne Brothers and Vulcan Material teamed up again to deliver a new rock for Park View Elementary School in Mooresville, NC. The 6,500 ton boulder, donated by Vulcan, was hauled and set in place by Wayne Brothers’ Equipment Group. They also relocated an existing spirit rock to a new location. Now the school has a spirit rock for the Kindergarten and First Graders, and a spirit rock for the Second and Third Graders. Helping deliver and place the boulder (from left to right) was WBI’s Todd Wilson, Shannon Sapp and Michael Henrickson (a Park View Elementary alumnus.) A big ‘Thank You’ goes to Vulcan’s Denise Hallett & David Holsinger for all their help. “Thanks so much! Last quarter, a group of office employees challenged each other to improve their overall health by competing against each other in a weight loss challenge. The employee with the largest percentage of body weight loss would win. Barbara Turner was the winner and lost an amazing 10.8% of her body weight, and 18.8 pounds! Lisa Webster came in a close second and lost 8.4% of her body weight and 12.6 pounds. Barabara followed a low carb diet to help her reach her goals. “I feel good on this diet and it isn’t just for weight loss but also for well being.” Congratulations, Barbara, Lisa and everyone who participated in the weight loss challenge! The beginning of a new year is a great time to review your personal information and who you have listed as your beneficiaries. Situations and changes occur during the year and it is easy for this to slip by unchanged. LIFE INSURANCE – Whoever you have listed as your beneficiary on the last form we have on file for you is who will receive the insurance payment in the event of your untimely death. 401K – Remember the rules for 401(K) beneficiaries are restrictive. If you are married, your spouse is entitled to your 401(K) account regardless of who you list as your beneficiary unless they have signed the spousal consent form. By signing this form, your spouse is allowing you to name someone else as beneficiary. This is also a great time to look at your investments and asset allocations, and redistribute if applicable. With the flu season in full swing now is the time to protect yourself and others by getting your flu vaccine. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends the flu vaccine as the first and most important step in protection. Our insurance will cover the cost of this vaccination. You should call your doctor and schedule an appointment for an injection only (no office visit) and you will not be required to pay a co-pay. Also, you may visit a CVS Minute Clinic or check with any local pharmacy to make sure they take Cigna and the fee will be covered 100% with no out of pocket required.
