Dunbar Summer All Stars Adaptive Camp for Young Adults with Disabilities (19-29 yrs) Discovery, independence, diversity, friendship, inclusion, life skills development, community awareness, and advocacy for persons with disabilities are the central values to this camp. This unique summer camp program is a combination of independent and integrated activities for young adults with additional needs who are looking to have fun, learn skills, and socialize. Outcomes include enhanced selfesteem, improved social and communication skills, and increased experience using public transit while in-program. If you are a new participant, an assessment interview is required; some participants may be asked to provide their own assistants based on the assessment. This camp is designed to meet the needs of young adults with mild to moderate disabilities. The ratio is 5 young adults to 1 leader with volunteer support. Sample activities: Swimming, UBC Rose and Nitobe Garden, Splash Down, water parks, cooking, scavenger hunts and of course summer favourites such as Playland, the Vancouver Aquarium, Science World, and Splashdown! Children should dress appropriately for the weather. To be included daily: • bathing suit • hat • sunscreen • lunch Children will be asked to wear their camp t-shirts as often as they can and especially on out trips so they can easily be identified.
