One of the most enjoyable experiences I have had since joining Dunedin Boat
Club was at our first Family and Kids Night. There was a mixture of singles,
families, children, and grand children - thirty people in all, and there was no
doubt in the kids’ minds that the evening was devoted to them. The more we
work to make the boat club a part of their young lives, the better the
probability they will become members when they grow up.
In less than six weeks the Dunedin Cup Rendezvous and Silent Auction will
take place at the Fine Arts Center and don’t forget the Dunedin Cup Regatta
on September 26 – 28. We need many volunteers to help both on land and on
the water. Please contact Terry Hopkins, [email protected] or Paul
Auman, [email protected].
See you there.

Have a wonderful dinner at the Sarasota Yacht Club
some summer evening. Dine on the deck of the Boston Yacht Club.
Have a cool drink at the Naples Sailing and Yacht Club. Sound too good to
be true? Well, it is possible.
We are all members of the Yachting Club of America (www.ycaol.com). Search
their web site and pick out the Club you wish to attend. Call and make a
reservation as a YCA reciprocity member. Bring your DBC membership card,
your 2014 YCA Reciprocal Courtesy Card, and then enjoy full use of their Social

The August cruise will be a return, after several years of absence, to the beautiful resort of
Treasure Island Yacht Club.
This event is scheduled for the week-end of Saturday August 16 and Sunday August 17.
Treasure Island Yacht Club has a very nice Friday night seafood buffet on August 15
(Friday) for those of us wishing to arrive a little earlier. They do request we provide a
count of how many of us will participate in the Friday night buffet.
If the majority of cruisers will arrive on Friday, the harbor master has promised to have
coffee and pastries available for us on Saturday morning.
I will need a list of participating boats with the owner’s name to supply the harbor
master. At the July general meeting, I will have a roster sheet to pass around for anyone
wishing to go on this cruise.
I hope we have a great turn out, since they are very eager to have us return to their
club for our summer cruise.
You can check out their website at: WWW.THECLUBTI.com
I will have more information at the general meeting.

From Mrs. Lincoln’s Dressmaker Book Club
Resources:
“In a life that spanned nearly a century and
witnessed some of the most momentous events in
American history, Elizabeth Hobbs Keckley was
born a slave. She earned her freedom by the skill
of her needle, and won the friendship of First Lady
Mary Todd Lincoln by her devotion. In her
sweeping historical novel, Mrs. Lincoln’s

women shared, beginning in the hallowed
halls of the White House during the trials of
the Civil War and enduring almost, but not
quite, to the end of Mrs. Lincoln’s days.”
In 1868 Elizabeth Keckley published her
tell-all memoir, Behind the Scenes: Thirty
Years a Slave and Four Years in the White
House, which created a scandal and created
a rift between her and Mrs. Lincoln. That
would be an interesting book to read!
