FOREWORD
VATSALA SUBRAMONI, Honorary Chairman
I.R.S, Commisioner of Income Tax (Retd.), Bangalore
It is my pleasant duty to present the Annual Report of Brahmi Educational
And Cultural Trust for the Financial Year 2012-13. Another year has gone, with
its own set of difficulties and of course, its triumphs. Our children, the students of
Anjana Vidya Kendra School, the flagship charitable initiative of Brahmi, amazed
us, once more, by recording a very high Pass percentage at the SSLC Board
Examinations, with several spectacular Distinctions-the topper with 93% being
the cherry on top of the icing! The SSLC Examinations are conducted by the
Karnataka Government. Our students are all drawn from the rural areas and are
otherwise disadvantaged too. For these students to excel in academics and that
too, at the State level, speaks volumes about the ability of our children and the
deep commitment of the teachers and the entire TEAM Anjana. My joyful and
grateful felicitations to all of them! With success comes great responsibility and
expectations-that of performing even better in the years to come. As the saying
goes, “Nothing succeeds like Success”,and so, I am sure, the winning spirit will be
carried forward by the teacher and the taught.
The school has done remarkably well in sports and athletics. Our children
have taken to Yoga and Sports with great enthusiasm and the results were there
to watch at school events, to the delight of the Guests at the School! The myriad
festivals of India were celebrated with joyous participation from all. There is no
better way to inculcate respect for our cultural diversity and instill the spirit of
patriotism.
As Honorary Chairman of the Trust, my eternal worry is to find funds for the
day to day running of the School. I am glad to report that minimum, basic
infrastructure is in place. Thanks to the feisty attitude of Mrs. Uma Maheshwari
and the unrelenting hard work of Dr. Channa Raju, many of the administrative
procedures have been streamlined and initiatives dear to our hearts have been
revived. In these days of high inflation and galloping costs, managing
expenditure, while providing the same level of service to the School, is almost
nightmarish. We do not get any financial aid from any Government Agency. The
fees we collect from our students is less than nominal and the scope for
increasing them is very little. However we are retaining the system of collecting
the meager fees to make the parents keep the children invested in education. We
do not have any corpus fund worth the name! Yet, thanks to the generosity and
continued support of the Patrons, Corporate Partners, Supporters and well-wishers
of Brahmi, we are treading year to year. Like Abu Ben Adham, may their tribe
increase!
I conclude this report by saying that we cannot rest on our laurels, and with
an earnest prayer that more like-minded individuals/institutions join us in this
endeavour, to encourage and support us.

produced at the school itself from cows maintained on the campus.

PART IV – MONEY MATTERS
1.
ADMINISTRATIVE EXPENSES
Brahmi uses the Anjana Vidya Kendra school premises as its office and
does not have paid staff. All administrative activities are carried out by
the members of the board and volunteers purely on honorary basis. The
same philosophy is implemented in its school Anjana Vidya Kendra with
teachers sharing all administrative activities of the school.
2.
PARENTS CONTRIBUTION
No tuition fee was charged in the first years of our school. We found a link
between the school dropout rate and parents contribution, with dropout
rates being high during the time when parents got education, school
supplies and nutrition free. Team Brahmi implemented the scheme of
monthly tuition fee/child equivalent to 1 day’s labour the school dropout
rates reduced and we have had no instance of school dropout in the
recent years. Parents contribute to 25-30% of our overall expenses in the
form of tuition fee.
The existing policy of the organization –
Monthly Tuition fee at Anjana School = 1 days unskilled male
labour
(payable in 2 installments during the academic year)
Nutrition/NoonMeal
–
Free
(Sponsored
by
NGO
partners/Supporters/Individuals)
School Supplies – Free (Notebooks and Textbooks).
