アメリカン•スクール•イン•ジャパン
（ASIJ）
は毎年、
人間国宝でいらっしゃる山本東次郎先生を頭首と
する大蔵流の先生方のご指導の下、高校生、
中学
生による狂言を1978年以来行っております。
今年は
『口真似』、
『盆山』、
『蝸牛』
を披露します。全て日本
語で行われますが英語の字幕が出ます。
演目の最後にご指導いただいている山本泰太郎先
生、
山本則孝先生による
『寝音曲』
をご覧頂きます。
このような珍しい日本伝統文化を鑑賞できる機会
をどうぞお楽しみ下さい。
口真似 (中高生)
主人は、
お客様に礼儀正しくお酒を
振る舞いたいのだが、
ひと癖ありそ
うな太郎冠者が主人の思惑通りに
お客様におもてなしをしてくれるの
ろうか？

盆山 (中高生)
盆山が欲しくてたまらない男が、盆
山をたくさん持っている家主のうち
に盗みに入る。
ところが、家主がそれ
に気づいてしまう。
そこで、家主は盗
人を懲らしめる企てをする。

蝸牛 (高校生)
主人は、太郎冠者に、幸運と長命の
シンボルであるカタツムリを取ってく
るように命ずる。
ところが、
カタツムリ
を知らない太郎冠者は、
山伏を連れ
て帰る。
それを見て怒る主人、陽気
に浮かれている山伏、
そしてその二
人の間で戸惑う太郎冠者。
さて、劇
は、
どのように終わるのでしょう。

主人は太郎冠者がいい歌声をして
いることを知り、
どうしても歌っても
らいたいと思う。
ところが、太郎冠者
は今後度々歌わされるのは、迷惑な
ので、
「酒を飲ませてくれたら歌いま
しょう。」
などと次から次へと条件を
出してみる。

ASIJ Theater
Every year ASIJ is fortunate to have members of
the nationally recognised Yamamoto family of
professional Kyogen actors, of the Okura School,
teach a group of our high school and middle
school students this traditional art of comedy.
The students will perform three well-known
plays. Following that, our teachers Yasutaro
Yamamoto & Noritaka Yamamoto will
graciously perform the play Neongyoku.
Don’t miss this unique and entertaining
cultural experience at ASIJ! All plays will be
performed in Japanese, with English subtitles.
Kuchimane
(“Mimic”)
Bonsan
(“The Miniature”)
Kagyu
(“The Snail”)
Neongyoku
(“Singing”)
A guest arrives at an estate, and
the master, needing to make
a good impression, orders his
unrefined servant, “Do as I do.
Say as I say,” but things go awry.
A man, wanting to own a bonsan
or a miniature landscape display,
decides to steal one from an
acquaintance. Sneaking in at night,
he is discovered by the owner, who
decides to have a bit of revenge.
Will the thief escape unscathed?
The master tells his servant to bring
him a snail, a symbol of good luck
and long life. But the servant has
never seen one, and mistakes a
mountain priest for a giant snail.
The priest plays along, snickering
at his trick. Will the master be able
to set his servant straight?

The master discovers his
servant to have a fine voice and
commands him to sing, but the
servant, not wanting to add
“singing” to his list of regular
duties, puts ludicrous conditions
on his musical services.
