The 2014 Spirit of Duluth Hockey Tournament will be

Dear Coach, Manager or Scheduler:
The 2014 Spirit of Duluth Hockey Tournament will be held on December 5-7, 2014. This is the
first full weekend in December. The tournament will be for boys' hockey at the Pee Wee AA,
Bantam AA, and Junior Gold A levels and above.
The tournament will be held at the Sill Arena and Seitz Arena at the Duluth Heritage Sports
Center, Mars Lakeview Arena on the Duluth Marshall School campus, Fryberger Arena, the
DECC Arena, and SAHA Arena in Superior, Wisconsin. The tournament will follow the same
formant as in past years, with all teams in each division playing in a round robin format. Again
this year, teams will be guaranteed a minimum of 4 games, and some teams will play five
games. Pee Wees will play 15-minute stop time periods; Bantams and Junior Gold will play 17minute stop time periods.
Defending champions will again be guaranteed entry in the tournament if they apply.
If your team wishes to apply to participate in the tournament, please complete the attached
application for each team and provide it to the tournament representative at the appropriate level
no later than Friday, August 29, 2014:

Teams will be notified regarding acceptance for the tournament in September 2014.
This year’s entry fee for all teams is $1450. This amount includes both the tournament fee
and gate fee. Accepted teams are required to pay $1000 of the entry fee on or before October
17, 2014, with the remaining balance of $450 due on or before November 28, 2014. Teams may
also pay the entire $1450 entry fee with one check on or before October 17, 2014. If your team
applies and is selected, but the minimum $1000 payment is not received by October 17, 2014, a
new team may be selected. Any accepted team that drops out after November 1, 2014 will not
be refunded any payments previously made.
The schedule and other information will be sent to accepted teams on or about November 7,
2014. Accepted teams must be prepared for the possibility of playing as early as 9:00 a.m. on
Friday and Saturday, December 5 and 6, 2014. There will be no changes once the schedules
are sent out.
Our major sponsor, ZMC Hotels, will again sponsor a hospitality room on Friday evening at
tournament headquarters, The Edgewater Hotel & Waterpark. Team hotel room blocks will be
available at the Edgewater Hotel & Waterpark, Days Inn Duluth Lakewalk, The Inn on Lake
Superior, and the Best Western Bridgeview in Superior. ZMC will also offer one complimentary
coaches’ hotel room for every 10 rooms booked by a team. See the attached flyers for details
