Presentación
Esta asignatura busca consolidar los conocimientos prácticos del alumno en la
lengua inglesa por medio del desarrollo de las competencias lingüísticas y comunicativas a nivel avanzado (Nivel
“Advanced” de Cambridge).
El programa teórico consiste en el estudio de aspectos concretos de la gramática y vocabulario, mientras que el
programa práctico está orientado a la mejora de las cuatro destrezas comunicativas: “reading”, “writing”, “listening” y
“speaking”.
Se trata de una asignatura anual obligatoria de segundo curso.
Programa Básico
esta asignatura busca consolidar los conocimientos del alumno, prácticos, de la
lengua inglesa orientada a la traducción e interpretación por medio del
desarrollo de las competencias lingüísticas y comunicativas mediante ejercicios
de comprensión escrita y oral (reading, writing, listening and speaking).
Proficiency level.
Se trata de una asignatura anual obligatoria de segundo curso.
Objetivos
GENERAL OBJECTIVES
The aim is to provide an integrated course for those students who have already reached an upper-intermediate level
and should be working towards the standard of English required for taking examinations at advanced level.
The course is designed (a) to expand vocabulary and idiomatic expressions beyond what is required for survival
English, and (b) to increase the students’ reading, speaking, listening and writing skills through the analysis of the
structure, lexis, register and style of a wide variety of authentic texts taken from newspapers, magazines and from
fiction or non-fiction books.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
THEORY
Revision of the problem areas of English grammar which will be dealt with in a thought-provoking, stimulating and
interesting way.
The aims of the vocabulary lessons are to build on the vocabulary that students already know and increase their range
of expression.
PRACTICE
To improve students´ reading skills so that they can read more effectively and appreciate the implications and style of
a text
To improve students´ listening skills so that they can understand a wide range of spoken texts
To improve students´ writing skills and encourage them to develop useful practical techniques which will enable them
to communicate effectively in writing.
To improve students´ command of spoken English, by providing frequent opportunities for discussion, so that they will
be able to participate appropriately and confidently in a wide range of interactions in the second language.

The contents of this part of the course focus on a variety of grammatical aspects and on vocabulary which will be
organised within different topics.

Programa Práctico
The contents of this part of the course comprise the following language activities:
a. Listening activities.
b. Reading activities.
a. Speaking activities.
b. Writing activities.
Evaluación
THEORY 50% PRACTICE 50%. Students will need to pass both parts –theory and practice- to pass the subject.
16th December: Exam, Reading book 1: Barrell, J. (2000) But Was it Murder? Cambridge University Press (3,12%).
20th January: Vocabulary exam (1st part: 12,5%)
14th April: Exam Reading book 2 Mosses, A. (2005). Frozen Pizza and Other Slices of Life. Cambridge University
Press (3,12%).
19th May: The oral exam will consist on an oral presentation students should give in front of the class (12,5%).
June:
Theory: Vocabulary exam (2nd part, 12,5%) + grammar (25%)
Practice: Listening (12,5), Writing (12,5), Reading (6,25%)
*NOTE 1: The reading skill is worth 12,5% but it is divided into the reading exam in June (6,25%) and the two exams in
December (3,12%) and April (3,12%).
