The End of Sustainability. What comes next? John Foster September 28, 2016, 6:30 pm Vienna University of Economics and Business, Ceremonial Hall 2, building LC Welthandelsplatz 1, 1020 Wien In his books The Sustainability Mirage (2008) and After Sustainability (2015) John Foster argues that hopes for successful climate policy and a development that can be called “sustainable” are unfounded: climate change will come, and sustainable development is impossible as long as “progressivism” rules. “There is”, writes Foster, “no going back. We cannot for the foreseeable future recover the kind of collective communion with the non-human wild that has sustained us for most of the human past.” This and other provocative statements call for discussion, especially of the question: Then what? What comes next? John Foster will give a public lecture on his ideas and will discuss with Ingolfur Blühdorn, WU-Institute for Social Change and Sustainability (IGN) Margaret Haderer, affiliated postdoc researcher at the IGN Verena Madner, WU-Research Institute for Urban Management and Governance Moderation: Fred Luks, WU-Competence Center for Sustainability This event is co-organised by the WU-Institute for Social Change and Sustainability (IGN) and the WU-Competence Center for Sustainability http://www.wu.ac.at/IGN/ | http://www.wu.ac.at/sustainabilitycenter Please register by September 23rd at: [email protected]
