WELCOME TO BRISBANE 2014 FROM CROQUET ASSOCIATION QUEENSLAND
Hi Everybody! Welcome to sunny Brisbane for the 2014 National Championship. We could call
them the Croquet Olympics (there is a gold medal to be contested) but without the fanfare of Sochi.
All Queensland players and supporters wish you well and every success in your endeavours.
(Queensland will be hoping we can stop the silverware from going south, as seems to be happening
to us lately).
Thanks everyone for your willingness to participate and Queensland trusts your venture will be
successful and enjoyable.
See you around the venues.
P.S. If you have room, please bring some “rain”.
Regards
Doug Williams
President

Australia and the Australian Tournament Regulations as amended on 7 March 2014, including the WCF Refereeing
Regulations.

fashion, and after the completion of play for the day (at the discretion of the Venue Manager).
Hoops are to be set as near as possible to 3 11/16 inches. To allow for inaccuracies in gauges, balls, hoops and
setting techniques, a tolerance of ± 1/32 inch is allowed. Law 53(b)(3) applies in this event.
Dawson International balls will be used.
Courts will be allocated by the Venue Manager and games will be double banked as required.
A 5 minute warm up period will be permitted before a player’s first game of the day when hoops may only be run
in a controlled fashion. This is subject to the tournament schedule.
Play shall commence at 8.00 am sharp unless the Tournament Manager decides otherwise. Players are
requested to be at their designated court before their scheduled starting time for each match.
Referees will be Referees on Request.
Players may be allowed a break of up to 10 minutes between matches and a lunch break of up to 30 minutes. No

surrounding play in order to ensure their own safety. A player presenting at the venue in unsuitable attire will be
given the opportunity to dress appropriately or will not be permitted to participate in the event.
The Tournament/Venue Managers will decide whether play in any match should continue if the weather deteriorates.
The Tournament Manager in consultation with the Executive of Croquet Australia may make any alterations to the
program, draw and other arrangements as are necessary in order to complete the tournament in the time
available. If available, lights may be used at the Tournament or Venue Manager’s discretion if required to achieve
the schedule.

Players’ attention is drawn to Law 49 regarding Expedition in Play.
The Australian Handicapping System is used for this Tournament. Players must ensure that they have their
handicap cards with them and present them to the authorised person before the Open Singles. The Tournament
Handicapper may amend a player’s handicap before the commencement of play where there is a significant
inconsistency between players of similar world ranking grade. Handicap changes take effect immediately after
completion of any game in which players pass a trigger point (in accordance with the updated Handicapping
Regulations published on the ACA Website on 14 February 2010).

CAQ Quotable Quotes
“Nothing astonishes men so much as common sense and plain dealing.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
“We gain strength and courage, and confidence by each experience in which
we really stop to look fear in the face, we must do that which we think we cannot.”
Eleanor Roosevelt
On the Lighter Side

Two hats were hanging on a hat rack in the hallway. One hat said to the other:
“You stay here, I’ll go on a head.”
