Das Goldbergwerk von Sakdrissi
Initiative: Zwischen Europa und Orient - Mittelasien/Kaukasus im Fokus der Wissenschaft
Ausschreibung: Strukturell orientierte Maßnahmen
Bewilligung: 12.04.2016
Laufzeit: 3 Jahre
This project intends to finalize the long-term project "Gold in Georgia" that has been carried out
since 2004 in collaboration of the Deutsches Bergbau-Museum Bochum, the Ruhr-University of
Bochum and the Georgian National Museum and its Archaeological Centre Otar Lordkipanidze. It
is the aim of the project to evaluate the research results that were harvested from the prehistoric
gold mine of Sakdrisi between 2004 and 2013 by firstly processing all the artefacts excavated and
secondly developing a 3D-GIS-system that allows matching the high-resolution 3D-laser-scans
with all sorts of scientific evaluations and analyses. The system will exceed the usual visualizingand selection-tools and allow complex queries in order to combine the archaeological information
from both the surface structure and the filling. The technical procedures will be the basis for two
dissertations that are to be prepared at the University of Bochum and will be carried out by a
Georgian (Ketevan Tamasaschwili) and a German (Felix Klein) junior scientist.
