NEC GxFS Flex Storage Appliance
Nowadays organizations create and process more
and more data. The current solutions of single
data silos are not able to cope with the requirement of providing faster and easier access to the
data, enhanced resilience and security of the environment in combination with a lower price and
easier administration.
GxFS is the solution by introducing a scale-out
cluster with a global name space for all your data.

Data accessibility
GxFS enables you to access your data via
various protocols – NFS, SMB, GPFS, HADOOP, S3, Block & Object – world wide.
Via the integrated WAN cache feature you
can integrate remote sites that have only
a limited network bandwidth. You can also
connect multiple clusters within the same
data center or across long distances over a WAN to build a super

devices, objects, and files within
a single name space.
Service availability
The certified GxFS Dell hardware will stay
online as long as more than 50% of its
quorum servers are available. It allows extension and removal of these servers even
in a running cluster where the addition or
removal of standard – none quorum – server has only impact on your performance.
The GxFS policy of rolling updates allow the
GxFS to stay in production for almost 24x7
since only a single cluster server is under
maintenance at a given time.

Data management
GxFS lets you define on which storage type
your data is located. Place often used data
on Flash while less used data will be migrated automatically to near line storage.

Performance
Performance for GxFS is not restricted to
speed only but the ability to scale in multiple dimensions.
You can scale-up and scale-out your storage meaning faster access – millions of
IOPS - and more storage – petabytes of
data.
It means the ability to integrate other protocols – like SQL - with ease and transferring your GxFS into a database cluster.
Furthermore GxFS scales in time. Because
of its unique features you can replace your
underlying hardware without any impact

NEC GxFS Flex Storage Appliance Building
Blocks
GxFS Building Blocks are the basic units
of a GxFS installation. A building block
consists of a storage block – that could be
from various certified vendors and a server
block based on Dell Hardware running the
GxFS appliance which is fully configured
and ready for use. GxFS Building Blocks
allow for easy sizing and scaling of any
I/O setup. It offers a simple way to grow
bandwidth or capacity according to your
demands. Due to its nature GxFS supports
storage blocks from different vendors to be
used within the same cluster—optimizing
available storage utilization, delivering high
performance where needed and preventing
single points of failure for your data.
If required you can integrate your current
storage hardware at block level or at the
file system level (BYOD). GxFS is more
than a storage solution - it lets you decide
what storage to use.

Dynamic Disk Pools
Dell MD3 Series Dynamic Disk Pools (DDP) is a data protection
technology designed to deliver consistent storage system performance, data protection, and efficiency throughout the lifecycle of the
system. DDP simplifies the setup process and reduces the ongoing
maintenance requirements of data protection. With DDP, customers do not have to define RAID array sizes, hot spares, and drive
maintenance schedules. DDP distributes data, parity information,
and spare capacity across a pool of drives. Its intelligent algorithm
defines which drives are used for segment placement, making sure
data is fully protected.
