Deutsch-Amerikanischer Club 1948 Stuttgart German-American Club 1948 Stuttgart September, 2016 Dear Members and Guests: We would like to invite you to join us for a visit to Waiblingen, a walled town on the river Rems not far from Stuttgart. Having been saved from destruction in WWII it gives us an excellent opportunity to get a feel for times past and see a lovely and picturesque part of Waiblingen, an old and very historic Württemberg town. . Source: with permission from the city of Waiblingen On Saturday, September 17, 2016 we will meet at 14:30 next to the Galerie Stihl Waiblingen at the Haus der Stadtgeschichte, “House of the Town‘s History“, where we will start with a look into the history of Waiblingen. This is the oldest house in town and has been used for many things over the past 500 years years including a leather tannery and living space for workers and guest workers. In addition to many aspects of everyday life in Waiblingen, the museum documents how the interior of this half-timbered house was constructed to provide living and working spaces, including the only heated room in the building. Note: Although the museum has excellent written descriptions, they are only in German. Therefore we will offer one tour with English explanations for those who cannot read German. We will all then gather together again outside at 16:00 for two walking tours, one in English and one in German, of the Medieval City of Waiblingen. Following the tours we will walk across the lovely park along the Rems to the “Remsstube” in the Bürgerzentrum for dinner at approximately 18:00. There we will enjoy a selection of Swabian meal choices from a small à la carte menu. For this event there is no cost for members. Cost for non-members will be € 5.
