Jeff's Journal The Final
Sadly, this will be my last journal to all of you as the
13th Friendship Ambassador. I will continue my work
throughout July and leave Japan on August 5th to
return to the United States.
I am often asked how was my stay in Japan or how do
I like it here. There are so many things that come to
mind that it is hard to answer the question. First, Japan
is a very beautiful place and the culture is unique. I
enjoyed the beauty of Japan during my travels and
have learned so much about the culture through the
experiences that I have had. Thank you to everyone
who has taught me about the Japanese culture by
inviting me to events or to participate myself. Serving
green tea, wearing kimono, throwing beans during
Setsubun, and making Japanese foods are just some of
the many memories that I will always remember.
Secondly, Japan is full of wonderful, kind, and talented
people. Everyone who I have met from my students,
teachers, community members, and city workers have
been so kind and welcoming to me. Thank you very
much. I truly felt as though I was an asset and part of
the community of Omitama. Many friendships were
made and as time went on these have deepened so
much that I consider most of you like family. Omitama
will always be my second home.
Last but not least, I love how international friendly
Omitama is. With all of the world issues we have the
only way to understand each other is to learn from
each other and to develop friendships. By having this
sister city relationship and other international events
we can only deepen our friendship and understanding.
I hope Omitama never loses this important asset.
During the last month that I am here I will be pretty
busy wrapping up my classes, community events, and
helping with the delegation of Abilene residents coming
to Japan.
Thank you all so much for everything over the past
two years. I look forward to coming back in the future.

悲しいことですが、第 13 代の友好親善大使とし
て皆さんに最後のジャーナルを書くときが来てし
まいました。7 月まで仕事を続け、8 月 5 日に帰
国することとなりました。
よく日本での滞在はどうだったか、日本は気に
入ったか、と聞かれます。答られないほどたくさ
んのことが思い浮かびます。まず、日本はとても
美しいところで文化は独特です。旅行の際には日
本の美しさを堪能し、文化についてもたくさん体
験を通して感じることができました。日本文化を
教えてくれた人達やいろいろなイベントに誘って
くれた方々に感謝します。お茶のお運び、着付け、
節分での豆まき、そして日本食をつくったりしま
した。これらはほんの一部ですが、とても心に残っ
ています。
次に日本は素晴らしさと親切さそして、才能に
あふれた人ばかりでした。出会った生徒、先生、
地域の方々、そして市職員みんなに優しくされ、
歓迎を受けました。ありがとうございました。ま
るで小美玉の宝のように接してくれたように思い
ます。多くの友情が生まれ、時と共に家族のよう
な関係に深まって行きました。小美玉は私の第二
の故郷となりました。　最後に小美玉の人達が、国の枠を超えて友好的
なことを強く感じました。世界が関わる問題を解
決するには互いを知り、互いの友好関係を深める
ことが重要だと感じました。この姉妹都市関係と
国際化のイベントを通して、友情や理解を深める
ことができたと思います。小美玉市がこの大事な
財産を失わないで欲しいと思います。
最後の一か月はクラスのまとめや地域のイベン
ト、そしてアビリン訪問団受入の手伝いで大変忙
しくなると思います。
この二年間大変お世話になったことに感謝しま
す。そして将来また戻って来たいと思います。
