It'll be three months soon since I came here. Time goes by really fast for me. Recently, it's getting colder. The temperature is very different between morning and noon. It's about 15℃ in the morning. On the other hand, it's about 25℃ at noon! By the way, I experienced Homecoming. It’s an annual tradition for most American high schools. It has many fun events! I went to a homecoming dance party. Everyone dressed up and danced at night! It was very fun! I experienced Halloween in the US, too. I went to many houses, trick-or-treating. Many houses were decorated for Halloween. They were very pretty and awesome!!! I got a lot of candies. Everyone enjoyed Halloween. I had many fun events last month! We have Thanksgiving Day this month. I'm looking forward to that! <2年 A 組 大蔵美涼さんから> I'll tell you about my American life this month. I went to a Halloween party. And I experienced trick or treat!! A lot of houses were decorated. I got a lot of candies :) I went to a musical of my school. It was after school. Many people came to watch the musical. The money collected from this musical will be used for students who are going to go to New York during this spring vacation. It was so great‼ ハロウィーン当日、コミュニケーション英語 I の授業では、コームズ先生が仮装をしてきてくれました☆ 授業では、1人に2つずつのワードが配られ、6~10のワードを入れて、グループでこわい話や面白い 話を作るアクティビティをしました。その時に1年生が作った文をいくつか紹介します。 ★Mr. Combs was watching a horror movie and eating a pumpkin pie. His mother wore a skeleton costume. He was very shocked by his mother, so he became a vampire. ★Mr. Combs made a Jack-o-Lantern. He costumed eyeballs. He picked up zombie eyeballs. Mr. Combs saw a horror movie. ★One day, a murderer costumed as a black cat. He found zombies in a tomb. He brained with the zombies. He then found something strange. There were pumpkins and eyeballs. They looked very strange. They suddenly said to him, “trick or treat!” ★One day there were two skeletons in Pumpkin Village. One of them was a zombie who wears a skeleton costume and another was a real skeleton. They promised to watch a horror movie. That day, the zombie ought to watch a horror movie with the real skeleton, but the zombie met a murderer who wore a skeleton costume! ★Once upon a time, Mr. Combs visited a strange house. Actually, witches, her black cats and a zombie who has eyeballs and a brain lived in the house! Mr. Combs said to them, “trick or treat,” but Mr. Combs was killed by them. It’s because they are murderers! ★When Mr. Combs was a child, he went to a neighbor’s house in a costume. He was a vampire with a Jack-o-Lantern in his hand, and he said, “trick or treat!” Then he saw a child (he had seen the child in a horror movie before) killing a man. He approached them. There were two corpses. One more, a vampire costume… ★Mr. Combs wears a costume of a black cat. He goes to a skeleton and a zombie with a Jack-o-Lantern and says, “trick or treat!” He gets their eyeballs. Vol.3 今回は「アメリカの学生と日本の学生の違い」について書かれています。 私たちは自分の気持ちや意見を他の 人に伝えることに慣れていないのかもしれません。コームズ先生はそのことをとても寂しく感じるそうです。アメリカ の学生はコームズ先生にどのような話をしていたのでしょうか? In this article, I want to talk about the differences I have noticed between my students in America and my students here in Japan. In America, I know my students parents, I know how they are doing, I know who they have a crush on, I know about all of their problems, and they all come to me to talk about the things that are troubling them. It is so different here. I honestly don’t know much about my students here in Japan. Aside from what little I can gather from homework and our brief conversations, I really don’t know anything about my students here. It is really strange for me. Sometimes it can feel really isolating. I want to be close with my students, I want you to all know you can depend on me and tell me anything and I will listen. I want to keep on being the teacher that I once was in America. I don’t want my students to feel disabled by their language ability; I want you to try to talk to me. I want you to come visit me during lunch and practice your language skills, and I want you to come to me for help. I want to be like your big brother, and I hope you can all see that like my American students once did. If I am not building a relationship between myself and my students then I feel like there isn’t a purpose of my being here. You see, I can easily be replaced by a CD player if all I do is read the textbook and review homework answers. I need to be able to speak with my students, know my students, and hear about your lives and what your dreams are. I want to be someone you can trust and someone you call a mentor. Teaching is a two-part job: part one is that I teach you the content that you need to learn, but part two is where I teach you about life and help you grow up, part two is where I do my best to help you through anything that comes up in your life, and most importantly part two is where you know that I am someone who cares about you and your future. Write me a letter, come see me in the teacher’s office, invite me to your club activities, say hello to me in the hallways, tell me about your hobbies, tell me about your dreams, come speak English and let’s learn more from each other.
