結果報告 第 5 回ヴォーリズ杯 ICC 中学生英語弁論 / 暗唱大会 Vories Gakuen 5th Vories ICC Junior Cup English Speech/Recitation Contest ＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊ 10月24日(土)、第5回ヴォーリズ杯ICC中学生英語弁論大会(The 5th Vories ICC Junior Cup English Speech Contest)を、 ヴォーリズ平和礼拝堂にて開催し ました。 この礼拝堂は、平和の使者としての働きに全力を尽くされていたヴォー リズ先生を記念して名付けられました。 この礼拝堂を会場に、弁論大会を開くこ とには、言語能力、表現力を向上させることにより、 コミュニケーションする楽し さを覚え、国内外を問わず、たくさんの友人をつくることにつなげてもらいたい という気持ちが込められています。 今 年 の 参 加 者 は、暗 唱 の 部、弁論の部ともに、それぞれ 14名、合計28名でした。今、 ス コア表を見ると、本当に 差 で、びっしりとみなさんのお名 前が並んでいます。大変な接 戦でした。回を重ねる毎に接 戦で、大会のレベルが上がっ てきたことを感じます。みなさ んは日頃の成果を競い合った わけですが、賞を得た人も得 なかった人も、今後の取り組み次第では、一年後の実力は逆転している かも知れません。昨年度も述べましたが、入賞した人には、接戦の中で得 た賞に自信を持ってもらいたいですし、入賞を逃した人には、ほんのわず かの差を埋める努力を今後も続けてもらいたいと思います。 2015年は戦後70年の節目の年であり、世界平和について、深く考える機会 が大変多い年でもあります。 その中で、世界中に友人をつくることの大切さはま すます大きくなってきています。外国に敵をつくるのではなく、友をつくること が、平和な世界を築く、最も確実で、最短距離の方法だからです。 弁論の部で最優秀賞を受賞した塚田ひかりさん(滋賀大学教育学部附 属中学校)は、英語が堪能な家族や、英語を流暢に話す韓国からの留学 生に刺激され、 自分もそうありたいと思うようになったというお話からはじ まり、異文化交流の大切さを訴え、たくさんの友人を海外につくりたいと いう内容でした。最後には、それを可能にするための努力は惜しまないと いう決意を述べてくれました。未来に向けて頑張る姿が目に浮かぶよう な素晴らしいスピーチでした。 本大会に出場していただいた中学生のみなさんの中から、 たくさんの平和の 使者が生まれてくださることを期待しております。 当日は、 ご家族、友人、指導されている先生方、多くの方がご来場くださ り、発表者に惜しみない拍手が送られていました。 弁論の部 最優秀賞受賞者 塚田ひかりさん The Reason Why I Study English 私が英語を勉強する理由 Until now, I haven't known how to express myself in English. I'm very happy to be here on this stage, and I can't believe that I'm going to make a speech to you in English. I thank everybody for giving me a chance to do this today. From the time I was born to six years old, I lived in Malaysia. My sister, who is three years older than me, went to an international school there, so she can communicate with a lot of foreigners in English. Unfortunately, I can't communicate in English as my sister does, because I didn't have any chances to be educated in English there. When we go on family trips to English speaking places, my father and my sister talk to the staff in English. Seeing my sister speaking English, I envy her and I want to do the same things as her. I wish I could ask for more things by myself, and I wish I wasn't at a loss at what to do in many situations. Sometimes I feel really disappointed at my poor English speaking ability. My mother has one friend from our time in Malaysia, who often visits us in Japan. My mother's friend became interested in Japan a long time ago, and as she has studied Japanese a lot, so she speaks very well. I know it is not easy to learn a foreign language, so I think she looks so cool when she does so. The other day, our school had an event to meet students from Korea. After the event one of them came to our house to stay as a homestay student. Her name was Yonju, and was the same age as me. She could speak Korean, English, and Japanese. From a young age, she has been learning Japanese by watching Japanese Anime on TV. Through the homestay experience with Yonju, I learned about the kinds of things necessary to master a foreign language. Like Yonju, I have had experiences with a lot of foreign people since I was little. This has given me the motivation to speak English fluently. I have been trying to improve my listening ability by listening to NHK English programs on the radio since I came back from Malaysia. In addition, I always want to surround myself with situations where I can experience English. I feel I am doing this when I watch foreign dramas and films. By doing these things, I hope to have the ability to express my opinions and feelings in English. I really want to make a lot of friends in foreign countries like my mother and my sister has, and I want to enrich my life through these experiences.
