2-19 形式主語 there を使った文「…に～がある」
（１）形式主語 there を使って「存在しているもの」に重点を置く
形式主語 there→be 動詞 is/are→存在する物や人→場所を表す副詞句の形だ。
there には和訳がなく「文の予告で一種の強調」で、存在するものに重点がある、
「私た
ちの町には大きな動物園がある」などがそれにあたる（これに対して「郵便局は○町にあります」
と言う時、郵便局は、現代では「あるのが普通」で、場所の方が問題になる。だから今の文は「郵便局」を
主語にして、文を作る）。
《設例 1》和訳を考えよう。
◇一番基本的なパターン。単数と複数に注意。
【a】 There is a big zoo in my city.
(私の町には大きな動物園がある)
【b】 There are five books there.
The five books are there.
⇔
(そこに 5 冊の本がある)
(その 5 冊の本はそこにある)
所有格の付いた語は、there 構文には使わない。また例文【b】で使われている後ろの there は「そ
こに」の副詞句。
◇生き物なら「～がいる」の和訳。
【c】 There are thirty students in my class.
(私のクラスには 30 人の生徒がいる)
≒ Thirty students are in my class.
★重要★
存在するものに重点がある形式主語 there
「～が…にある」で、存在するものに重点があると there を使う。

和訳しなさい。

（２）形式主語 there を使った文の否定文と疑問文と注意する特別疑問文
be 動詞があるので、それを活用すれば否定文・疑問文に転換できる。また個数をたず
ねる how many がよく試験で問われる。are there～?の順番を意識しよう。
《設例 2》否定文・疑問文に転換すると…。some(ｻﾑ)「いくつかの」があると注意。
◇be 動詞を生かす。
【a】 There is a book on the desk.
(机の上に本がある)
［否定文］ There isn’t a book on the desk.
(机の上には本はない)
［疑問文］ Is there a book on the desk ?
(机の上に本がありますか)
Yes, there is.
/
No, there isn’t.
(はいあります)
(いいえありません)
be 動詞を使うことも大切だが、受けた答えに、there を使うのことも、ポイントだ。
◇否定文や疑問文では some を any に変えること。
【b】 There are some pens in the box.
(箱の中にいくつかペンがはいっている)
［否定文］There aren’t any pens in the box.
(箱の中には、ペンが一本もはいっていない)
［疑問文］Are there any pens in the box ?
Yes, there are.
(箱の中にいくつかペンがはいっていますか) (はいあります)

◇個数をたずねる how many + 複数。でも are there も大切。
【c】 There are five pens in the box.

［受けた答え］There are five (pens) in it.

和訳して、さらに否定文・疑問文に転換して答えも付けなさい。
