The world’s population has continued to increase, and people are increasingly
concentrated in cities. This flow is expected to accelerate, and moreover in some
cities, the aging of urban residents has also become a big problem. Meanwhile,
the progress of technology has accelerated, providing us with new lifestyles and
sense of values one after another. Our future life will likely be largely determined
by science and technology that color the natural environment, urban environment,
home, and work, as well as by lifestyles such as art and design.
Are we not currently facing the issue of designing our own future on our own accord? Is how to design cities not an urgent issue for humanity? The Innovative City
Forum is an international conference that brings together opinion leaders from the
world to hold discussions on the basis of this common understanding.

In 2000, Mr. Oron Catts founded “SymbioticA,” an organization that conducts research from the viewpoint of art, in the School of Anatomy and Human Biology,
The University of Western Australia. We will listen to Mr. Catts, who has been
recognized as one of the “top 20 designers making the future and transforming the way we work,” about a new sense of values expressed through art using
biotechnology.
