Jeconet

History:
Since 2008, Taiwan-Japan Ecology Workshop was organized every other year and has been held
alternately between Taiwan and Japan. Our objectives include: 1) Facilitating research cooperation
and comparative studies between Taiwan and Japan; and 2) Encouraging students and scientists to
participate international cooperation. Each time, a theme is decided by the organizers to build up the
oral and poster sections. However, participations of all ecological research topics are encouraged.
Theme of the 4th Taiwan-Japan Ecology Workshop
Latitudinal variation of ecosystem responses to environmental changes: ecosystem comparative
studies
Motivation of the theme:
One advantage to have Taiwan-Japan Ecology Workshop is that Taiwan and Japan locates at very
different latitudes (different climatic zones). We may anticipate that ecosystems at different
latitudes likely respond to environmental changes in very different ways. We wish to take this
advantage to facilitate cross-system comparative studies. We like to seek participants working on
similar issues but from different latitudes (e.g. Taiwan VS Japan). The systems can range from
terrestrial, to freshwater, and marine environments. Theoretical, experimental, and observational
studies are all welcome. Studies across altitudinal variation are also appreciated. “Environmental
changes” are broadly defined, including natural and anthropogenic forcings. A special issue in
journal publication is expected to come out of this workshop.
Tentative workshop topics (to be constantly updated):
Confirmed research topics for comparative studies and participants for the workshop are listed
below. Other research topics are welcome. We will try our best to help find your counter parts in
Taiwan or Japan. If you are interested in participating this workshop and seeking your counter parts,
please contact the organizers.
