と、越水城をぬけ出し、父の射る芦屋（あしや）の鷹尾城
（たかおじょう）へ走りました。けれども、途中で道に迷って
今から四百五十年ほど前のこと、戦国（せんごく）時代の
西宮には、越水城（こしみずじょう）という当時としてはりっ
ぱなお城がありました。大社小学校の東側のあたり、小高

河島兵庫助（かわしまひょうごのすけ）が、正頼をたよって
周囲の家来たちが、
「将来のことを考えると、今殺しておいた方が無難（ぶなん）
降参してきました。正頼は敵方（てきがた）の武士でも降参
です。」

う兵庫助を斬ることにしました。
松若丸（まつわかまる）は父の兵庫助とともに正頼に仕え、
さんの人々が集まってきました。
松若丸は死に直面しながらも落ち着きはらって、
「最後のお願いです。故郷の母に手紙を書きたいのです。」
とたのみ、
「父上は不忠者（ふちゅうもの）といううわさのために、今
朝、殺されました。私は父の死を見捨てて行きながらえるこ
越水城で働いていました。十六才の少年でありながら和歌
とはできません。私もお供をいたします。かわいそうだとは

思わないで、ただ念仏だけを唱えてください。」

に知らせねば。」
また、松若丸をかわいがっていた、正頼の姉には、
「一人残され、なげいている老母（ろうぼ）がふびんでなり
ません。なぐさめてやってくださるならば、草葉（くさば）のか
げから感謝いたします。」
と書き残しました。
手紙を書き終えた松若丸は、首切人（くびきりにん）に、
「おねがいいたします。」
と一礼し、いさぎよく斬られました。
張りつめた空気の中、その瞬間（しゅんかん）、ワッと熱い
さけび声が上がり、人々のすすり泣く声がいつまでも続きま
した。
松若丸の刑場になった六湛寺は、今の西宮市役所のあ
たりにありましたので、今ではここを六湛寺町と呼んでいま
す。
