IN A HEATED SITUATION
Daniel 3
・YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES DON’T CHANGE GOD, BUT
HE CHANGES YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to
defend ourselves before you. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom
we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. 18 But even
if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your
gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.”

Nebuchadnezzar was so furious with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego that his face
became distorted with rage. He commanded that the furnace be heated seven times
hotter than usual. 20 Then he ordered some of the strongest men of his army to bind
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and throw them into the blazing furnace. 21 So they
tied them up and threw them into the furnace, fully dressed in their pants, turbans, robes,
and other garments. 22 And because the king, in his anger, had demanded such a hot fire
in the furnace, the flames killed the soldiers as they threw the three men in. 23 So
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, securely tied, fell into the roaring flames.

But suddenly, Nebuchadnezzar jumped up in amazement and exclaimed to his
advisers, “Didn’t we tie up three men and throw them into the furnace?”
“Yes, Your Majesty, we certainly did,” they replied. 25 “Look!” Nebuchadnezzar shouted. “I
see four men, unbound, walking around in the fire unharmed! And the fourth looks like a
god[g]!”

Then Nebuchadnezzar came as close as he could to the door of the flaming furnace
and shouted: “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come
out! Come here!”
So Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego stepped out of the fire. 27 Then the high officers,
officials, governors, and advisers crowded around them and saw that the fire had not
touched them. Not a hair on their heads was singed, and their clothing was not scorched.
They didn’t even smell of smoke!

Then Nebuchadnezzar said, “Praise to the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego!
He sent his angel to rescue his servants who trusted in him. They defied the king’s
command and were willing to die rather than serve or worship any god except their own
God. 29 Therefore, I make this decree: If any people, whatever their race or nation or
language, speak a word against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, they will
be torn limb from limb, and their houses will be turned into heaps of rubble. There is no
other god who can rescue like this!”

Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to even higher positions
in the province of Babylon. (Daniel 3:16-30 NLT)

シャデラク、メシャク、アベデ・ネゴはネブカデネザル王に言った。「私たちはこのことについて、
あなたにお答えする必要はありません。17 もし、そうなれば、私たちの仕える神は、火の燃える
炉から私たちを救い出すことができます。王よ。神は私たちをあなたの手から救い出します。

しかし、もしそうでなくても、王よ、ご承知ください。私たちはあなたの神々に仕えず、あなたが
立てた金の像を拝むこともしません。」19 すると、ネブカデネザルは怒りに満ち、シャデラク、メシ
ャク、アベデ・ネゴに対する顔つきが変わった。彼は炉を普通より七倍熱くせよと命じた。20 また
彼の軍隊の中の力強い者たちに、シャデラク、メシャク、アベデ・ネゴを縛って、火の燃える炉
に投げ込めと命じた。21 そこで、この人たちは、上着や下着やかぶり物の衣服を着たまま縛ら
れて、火の燃える炉の中に投げ込まれた。22 王の命令がきびしく、炉がはなはだ熱かったので、
シャデラク、メシャク、アベデ・ネゴを連れて来た者たちは、その火炎に焼き殺された。23 シャデ
ラク、メシャク、アベデ・ネゴの三人は、縛られたままで、火の燃える炉の中に落ち込んだ。24 そ
のとき、ネブカデネザル王は驚き、急いで立ち上がり、その顧問たちに尋ねて言った。「私たち
は三人の者を縛って火の中に投げ込んだのではなかったか。」彼らは王に答えて言った。「王
さま。そのとおりでございます。」25 すると王は言った。「だが、私には、火の中をなわを解かれて
歩いている四人の者が見える。しかも彼らは何の害も受けていない。第四の者の姿は神々の
子のようだ。」26 それから、ネブカデネザルは火の燃える炉の口に近づいて言った。「シャデラク、
メシャク、アベデ・ネゴ。いと高き神のしもべたち。すぐ出て来なさい。」そこで、シャデラク、メシ
ャク、アベデ・ネゴは火の中から出て来た。27 太守、長官、総督、王の顧問たちが集まり、この
人たちを見たが、火は彼らのからだにはききめがなく、その頭の毛も焦げず、上着も以前と変
わらず、火のにおいもしなかった。28 ネブカデネザルは言った。「ほむべきかな、シャデラク、メシ
ャク、アベデ・ネゴの神。神は御使いを送って、王の命令にそむき、自分たちのからだを差し出
しても、神に信頼し、自分たちの神のほかはどんな神にも仕えず、また拝まないこのしもべたち
を救われた。29 それゆえ、私は命令する。諸民、諸国、諸国語の者のうち、シャデラク、メシャク、
アベデ・ネゴの神を侮る者はだれでも、その手足は切り離され、その家をごみの山とさせる。こ
のように救い出すことのできる神は、ほかにないからだ。」30 それから王は、シャデラク、メシャク、
アベデ・ネゴをバビロン州で栄えさせた。(ダニエル 3:16-30)
