目の前にぽっかりと空いた直径約 40m の穴を覗き
込むと、龍宮窟の内部を観察することができます。海
底火山の噴火で降り積もった軽石や火山灰の地層が波
によって削られに方向に分岐した洞窟が作られまし
た。やがて洞窟の天井が不安定になり崩落、天窓が出
現しました。
伊豆半島には、龍宮窟の他にも堂ヶ島天窓洞（西伊
豆町）や弥陀窟（南伊豆町）などの神秘的な海食洞の
天窓が分布しています。
ところで、ここから下を見おろすと何かの形に見え
ませんか？ハートの形に見える龍宮窟は恋人たちの
人気スポットでもあります。
The interior of Ryugu Sea Cave can be observed through a
gaping hole, which is about 40m in diameter. Layers of
volcanic rocks and ashes from the eruptions were
eventually carved by waves, dividing the cave into two.
The cave ceiling then became unstable and fell in, creating
the Tenmado (skylight).
At the Izu peninsula, there are many other beautiful
skylights in Kaishoku-doʼs (caves created by ocean waves),
such as those in Dogashima-Tensodo(Nishiizu town),
Amidakutsu(Minamiizu town).
By the way, take a look down from this spot. Can you see
a familiar shope? Ryugu Sea Cave is also famous for its
“heart” shape, and is apopular tourist spot amongst
couples.
