Does Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) really lie at the nexus

Does Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) really lie at the nexus of research, theory, and
pedagogy?

Along with the development of second language acquisition research, Task Based Language
Teaching (TBLT) has recently gained prominence in foreign language pedagogy. Claims that
“task-based language teaching lies at the nexus of theory, research, and pedagogy (Adams
2009)” have been made and gradually accepted in particular in the area of English Language
Teaching (ELT). Within Japanese language education, however, these ideas are not fully
understood and particularly the expertise in the task design has not been transferred to
Japanese language pedagogy. Drawing from the work developed in ELT (Samuda et all 2000,
Willis and Willis 2007), This talk will consider a task design from a Japanese pedagogical point
of view.
