NYBC will hold the following special events to celebrate the New Year of 2016. Open to the Public. New Year Eve: we are holding year-end service from 7:00 -9:00 p.m. on December 31. It is a traditional custom to ring a bell at Buddhist temple 108 times. After service, each person will have an opportunity to ring the ‘daikin’ (large) bell. Toshikoshi soba (symbolizing long-life) will be served. New Year’s Day: New Year’s Day service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on January 1st, 2016. There will be a potluck lunch from 1:00 p.m. Bring your favorite food to share. Everybody can join Kakizome, New Year’s calligraphy, and Hyakunin Isshu (a traditional card game).
