Explore Interesting Places!　〈ポスターセッション / 具体例を示そう〉
前回に続き、マリが沖縄について作ったポスター
の内容を聞いてみます。one example や another
example など、具体例を示す表現に注意して、どの
ような例を上げているか聞き取ってみましょう。

■KABA.ちゃんお薦めの街は、アラブ首長国連邦の首都アブダビ
Where would you like to introduce?
「どこ（の街）を紹介したいですか？」
I would like to introduce Abu Dhabi, the capital of U.A.E.
「私が紹介したいのはアラブ首長国連邦の首都アブダビです。」
What is the weather like there?
「そこは、どのような気候なのですか？」
As it is a city like an oasis in the middle of a desert, it is dry and sunny all year round.
「砂漠のまん中にあるオアシスのような街なので、一年中乾燥していて晴天です。」
Where can we stay there?
「そこ（アブダビ）では、どこに泊まることができますか？」
You can stay at one of the world-class hotels such as Anantara Qasr Al Sarab.
「世界最高峰のホテルの１つ、例えば、アナンタラ・カスール・アル・サラブに泊まることができます。」
Looking at the desert, you can relax like a king.
「砂漠を眺めながら、王様のようにくつろぐことができます。」

Where should I visit in Abu Dhabi?
「アブダビではどこを訪ねるべきでしょうか？」
You should visit Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque which was built in 2007.
「２００７年に建てられたシェイク・ザイード・グランド・モスクに行くべきです。」
It is the 6th largest mosque in the world.
「それは世界で６番目に大きなモスクです。」
Why don t you go there?
「あなたも行ってみてはいかがですか？」

Where do you recommend?
「どこを推薦しますか？」
I would like to recommend my hometown, Kanazawa ward in Yokohama City.
「私は地元の、横浜市金沢区を推薦したいです。」
What does Kanazawa ward have?
「金沢区には何があるのですか？」
This ward, which is located in the southern part of Yokohama City, has several
good places to visit such as Hakkeijima Sea Paradise.
「この区は、横浜市の南部にあり、訪れると良い場所がいくつかあります。例えば、八景
島シーパラダイスです。」
What kind of place is it?
「それはどのようなところですか？」
This is a place where you can enjoy many things, for example, an aquarium,
ﬁreworks, shopping malls, and a marina.
「（それは）いろいろなことを楽しめるところです。例えば、水族館や花火大会、ショッ

ピングモール、マリーナなどがあるんです。」
Are there other places we can visit?
「ほかにも訪ねることができる場所はありますか？」
In Kanazawa ward, there are many old temples and shrines.
「金沢区には、古いお寺や神社がたくさんあります。」
For example, there is a temple called Shomyoji. Kanazawa Bunko is there. This
is an old library that was ﬁrst built in Kamakura Period.
「例えば、称名寺というお寺があります。そこには金沢文庫があります。これは、鎌倉時
代に創建された古い図書館です。」
You should really come and visit Kanazawa ward.
「ぜひ、金沢区に遊びに来てください。」
ポイント　オモシロ英語
今回のワークショップのテーマは、旅の行き先についてのポスター作りです。そこで、今回
は「旅人」に関する面白い英語をいくつか紹介しましょう。
まずは、backpacker。すでに知っている人も多いと思いますが、リュックを背負い、旅
をする人のことです。また、旅行者の中には、行き先を決めずに行き当たりばったりの人もい
ます。このような人を、英語では rover と言います。Bird of passage もいろいろな場所を
移動する人を指しますが、こちらは行き当たりばったりではなく、ルートが決まっている人の
ことです。同じく鳥（bird）を使った表現で、冬になると暖かいところに旅をする人、という
意味の snowbird もあります。また、holidaymaker は、休みをとって旅をする人。週末だ
け旅をする人は weekender です。
最後に、近ごろはやりのタイプの旅行者に対して使われる、explorer という表現を紹介し
ましょう。これは、まだ人にあまり知られていない場所などに行く人で、そこがどのような場
所かを確かめに最初に行く人、行きたい人を指します。

掲載しておきます。
