Dr. Abe conducts research as a professor in Institute of Medical Mycology of Teikyo University. Recently
he continued to study on Anti-infectious Aromatherapy which could make it possible for essential oils to
protect us from various types of infectious diseases in dermatological fields and wish that Anti-infectious
Aromatherapy will grow up as a potent therapeutic method useful for all members loving Aromatherapy in
the world.
安部茂は、真菌学を中心とした微生物学を専門にしている。抗菌アロマテラピーという立場から、精油の免疫、炎症、微
生物の病原性などに及ぼす研究を2000年より続けている。近年、抗菌アロマテラピーを発展・普及するために、皮膚や
粘膜の真菌感染症
（白癬、
カンジダ症など）
に適用できるアロマテラピーの開発に焦点を当てている。
東京大学薬学部卒業　薬学博士　日本医真菌学会理事　2012年11月開催の第56回日本医真菌学会総会総会長と
して働く予定。

Yoko AO is a researcher and an aromatherapist. She realized aromatherapists hands having rough skins
and since, she performs fundamental researches mainly on cytotoxicity of essential oils from a therapist's
point of view.

Dr. Atsumi is a cardiac surgeon, biomedical engineer, a member of the Science Council of Japan, and
a Professor Emeritus of Tokyo University. In 1959, he started artificial heart research, and, in 1985, he
recorded a survival of 344 days for a goat with a total artificial heart. He has also researched laser surgery,
biomagnetism, and medical thermology.
Since 1990s, he has promoted the concept of integrative medicine, which calls for the integration of
modern western medicine, traditional medicine, and complementary medicine.
渥美博士は心臓外科医、生体医工学者、
日本学術会議会員、東京大学名誉教授。1959年に人工心臓の研究を開始し、
1985年には完全人工心臓を装着したヤギを344日間生存させることに成功。
レーザー手術、生体磁気、医用熱学の研
究も行っている。

Dr. Buckle is the author of Clinical Aromatherapy in Nursing (1997) and Clinical Aromatherapy: Essential
Oils in Practice (2003). Her course, Clinical Aromatherapy for Health Professionals has been taught
to thousands of nurses and doctors in the USA over the last 15 years. Her course was the first to be
endorsed by a national nursing organization (AHNA) and led to aromatherapy being recognized as part of
nursing care. Following a post-doctoral research fellowship (Epidemiology & Biostatistics) at University of
Pennsylvania, USA, she returned to be a full time academic in London (Thames Valley University). She
has been a grant reviewer for NIH (US government) and NHS (UK government) and is currently a reviewer
for many peer-reviewed journals. She retired from full time academia in 2010.

Ms. Cantele is a certified clinical aromatologist, Swiss Reflex Therapist and consultant. As an
aromatherapy educator, she taught a clinical aromatherapy diploma program for the Penny Price Academy
of Aromatherapy. She is a featured writer for Aromatherapy Thymes Magazine as the “Aromatherpist On
Call” and has been a contributor to numerous aromatherapy articles.
In 2010-2011, Ms. Cantele brought her professional expertise to a pilot program aimed at providing a better
quality of life to children with life-limiting illnesses; including hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, cerebral
palsy and muscular dystrophy. Since 2006, she has served the Alliance of International Aromatherapists
(AIA), an organization that unites aromatherapists from around the world to advance research and
professionalism within the aromatherapy industry. As an advisor to the Education and Review committees,
Ms. Cantele helped to develop the elevated standards of education for clinical aromatherapy training.

Dr.CHANG’s research is mainly on biomedical signal processing, especially on ECG, EEG, and pulse
signals. His studies focus on stress reduction methods, such as aromatherapy, massages, meditation,
irritable bowel syndrome, and sleep related disorder. Recently he investigates the autonomous nervous
regulation of high working pressure elementary teachers, with the aid of aromatherapy. Brain dynamics
due to aroma is also under investigated.
張剛鳴の主な研究は生体信号処理、特にECG、EEG、パルス信号。アロマセラピーなどのストレス軽減法、
マッサージ、
瞑想、

A multi-specialty US nurse and Certified Clinical Aromatherapy Practitioner. Pam Conrad studied
advanced women’s health clinical aromatherapy in England and France and completed a Complementary
Therapy Studies PGd at University Westminster London, England. In 2004, Conrad founded Aromas for
Healing™ focused on education and research to advance clinical practice of aromatherapy in healthcare
environments. In 2007, Wellspring pharmacy® in partnership with Aromas for Healing™ developed an
integrative pharmacy aromatherapy program. In 2008, she developed the 1st in the US evidence based OB
hospital nursing aromatherapy programs. She’s developed multiple hospital clinical aromatherapy nursing
programs in Women’s Health, OB and oncology. In 2011 she completed a pilot clinical aromatherapy
research study on aromatherapy for postpartum depression and anxiety with statistically significant positive
results.

Dr. Hoshino was born in downtown Tokyo, and was graduated from Faculty of Medicine, Tokyo University
in 1979. While he was a medical student, he learned Zen-Buddhism, Yoga, Macrobiotic diet and he took
part in the health research caravan of the Kingdom of Tonga. He learned Japanese herbal medicine
(Kampo) from Dr. Ken Fujihira, Shigenari Ogura and Kazuhiro Ikeda since he was a medical student.
After 2-years’internship at the Ikeda-Wako Hospital in Kisarazu, he became an expert of Kampo medicine
and acupuncture. He became a gastroenterologist, after he returned to his university hospital. He studied
nutritional support of cancer patients in Toronto for 2 years. He has been working as an integrative medical
oncologist at the Cancer Institute Hospital, the leading cancer hospital in Japan and he has treated more
than 2,000 cancer patients difficult to manage with Western medicine alone and has achieved satisfactory
results. He has a wife (pediatrician) and two daughters (urologist and internist).
星野惠津夫氏は東京の下町で生まれ、1979年に東京大学医学部を卒業した。医学生時代には禅、
ヨーガ、食養（東洋
医学的食事療法）
などを学び、
トンガ王国健康調査隊にも参加した。医学生の頃から漢方医学を藤平健、小倉重成、池田
和広の諸先生から学び、鍼灸医学を西澤道允先生から学んだ。医学部卒業後、木更津市の池田ワコー病院で2年間の研
修を終える頃には、漢方と鍼灸による治療法をマスターしていた。出身大学に戻って消化器病専門医となり、
トロントに
2年間がん栄養の研究のため留学し、米国消化器病学会のフェローとなった。帝京大学内科助教授をへて、
日本随一の
がん専門病院であるがん研有明病院で漢方サポート科の部長となり、
これまでの6年間に西洋医学的に治療困難な患
者2000名以上の治療を手がけ、患者の元気回復と癌とがん治療に伴う症状の緩和に満足すべき治療効果をあげてき
た。家族は小児科医である妻と、
泌尿器科医と代謝内科医のふたりの娘である。

Dr. Imanishi executes the integrative medicine, which comprises of the combination of modern western
medicine with Kampo (Japanese traditional medicine), acupuncture, moxibustion, massage, aromatherapy,
balneotherapy, etc. in the MUIM Center for Integrative Medicine at Meiji University of Integrative Medicine.
Dr. Imanishi studies on the relation of autonomic nervous activity and circadian rhythm in various diseases
including hypertension, insomnia, sleep apnea syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, and studies also the
effects of aromatherapy on sleep, and relaxation (reduction in anxiety).

Associate professor of surgery. 2005, Professor of CAM. Dr. Ito is aiming to construct some evidences
by different types of clinical trials for lifestyle diseases using CAM modalities. In 2009, he supervised the
Japanese translation of a textbook, “Integrative Oncology” edited by Dr. Andrew T. Weil who is a pioneer of
integrative medicine. Last year, he established a new Association for evidence-based Integrative Medicine
(eBIM) for the purpose of enlightenment of IM. He is also one of the members on investigative commission
of integrative medicine in the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.

Dr. Kelly is a pediatric oncologist at the Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of New York-Presbyterian and
medical director of a novel clinical program integrating complementary therapies into the care of children
with cancer. Her research focuses on complementary therapies for supportive care during conventional
treatment for childhood cancer, including the effects of aromatherapy during stem cell transplantation.
She is chairperson of the Children's Oncology Group Complementary Therapies Research Committee
and she is a board member of the National Cancer Institute's PDQ Editorial Board on Complementary
and Alternative Medicine. Dr Kelly co-authored “Integrative Cancer Strategies: A Practical Resource for
Managing the Side Effects of Cancer Therapy “ (World Scientific Publishing, 2011). She also conducts
clinical trials for the treatment of Hodgkin lymphoma and acute lymphoblastic leukemia in children and
adolescents.

Mary Ellen Kinney is Co-Director of Clinical Aromatherapy Services for the Penny George Institute for
Health and Healing, the integrative care service line for Allina Health, one of the United States' largest
comprehensive health care systems. She and her team have created and implemented the aromatherapy
program for the 11 hospitals and 90 clinics of Allina Health.
Ms. Kinney was one of the nurses who developed an education system for nurses to deliver integrative
patient care in the hospital setting. She teaches clinical aromatherapy and integrative health and mentors
the nurses. She also teaches at the Veteran’s Administration Hospitals in Los Angeles, California.
As an Integrative Nurse Clinician, she provides aromatherapy within her holistic patient care practice at
Abbott Northwestern Hospital.and contributes to the Integrative Health research being conducted there.

Dr. Kobayashi teaches, conducts research and examines patients with skin diseases as an associate
professor in Department of Dermatology, Osaka City University Graduate School of Medicine. Her broad
range of research subjects comprises allergic skin disease including atopic dermatitis, holistic therapy
of skin diseases with a focus on combined therapy with modern and traditional Japanese medicine,
Kampo, which makes much of healthy diet and lifestyle, cell-matrix interaction in skin, and skin mycosis.
Dr. Kobayashi is also serving as a director of the Japanese Society of Aromatherapy (JSA) as well as a
director of the Japanese Society for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, a councilor of the Japanese
Society for Investigative Dermatology, the Japanese Society for Dermatoallergology and Contact
Dermatitis, and Medical and Pharmaceutical Society for WAKAN-YAKU.

While engaged in the first Japanese brain hypothermia therapy and the care of severe burns at the
Department of Mixed Internal Medicine and the Center for Emergency and Critical Care, Nihon University
School of Medicine, Itabashi Hospital, Koyama visited the U.K. in 1996 with an interest in natural healing
capacity and the well-balanced ability of the five senses. In learning natural therapy, she came to know the
practice of aromatherapy in U.K. medical institutions, such as in palliative care.
After returning to Japan, as a member of the Japanese Society of Aromatherapy, she launched a nursing
study division and has contributed to promotion activities for medical aromatherapy as the first head of
the nursing study group and a deputy director of the Society. She started providing a lecture on medical
aromatherapy at nurses associations and various medical institutions, and has been engaged in local
healthcare as a nurse and medical therapist in the field of integrated care at Medical Corporation Kokeikai
Syu Clinic since 1999. In 2005, she established and became the president of the Oriental Aromatherapy
College. While supporting the medical aromatherapy education for health professionals (doctors, nurses,
pharmacists, etc.) who attend from around Japan and for general students intending to become medical
aromatherapists, she continues the practice of complementary and alternative medicine in the clinical field.
日本大学医学部付属板橋病院混合内科および救命救急センターにて日本初の脳低体温療法ならびに重傷熱傷ケアに
携わる中、
自然治癒力とバランスの良い五感力について興味を抱き1996年渡英。自然療法を学びながら、英国におい
て緩和ケアなど医療機関で行われているアロマセラピーの実際を知る。
帰国後、日本アロマセラピー学会学会員として、看護研究部門を立ち上げ初代看護研究会会長、学会副理事としてメ
ディカルアロマセラピーの普及活動に貢献。看護協会や各種医療機関などにおいてメディカルアロマセラピーの講演
活動をスタートし、1999年より医療法人社団孝敬会朱クリニックの統合医療のフィールドで看護師並びにメディカルセ

The laboratory focuses on the understanding of molecular mechanisms of the sensory perception.
Experiments employ single olfactory receptor cells from which real-time electrical signals and intraciliary
Ca dynamics are simultaneously recorded, while intraciliary soluble factors are regulated with photoactivated compounds and externally-applied odorant stimulation. The technique has allowed us to
investigate the physicochemical mechanisms of olfactory features that include adaptation, amplification,
and olfactory masking. Recently, we have succeeded in explaining the neuronal system of corktaint of
wines; an intrinsically-synthesized off-flavor compound (called TCA) was found to reduce the original flavor
of wines by shutting down the olfactory transduction even with a ppt level contamination. This may be a
good example to show that volatile substances affect human senses with very effective ways.
研究室はモデルとして視覚、嗅覚、味覚の受容システムやそれらの情報処理・情報抽出の特徴を用い、
これらを分子・物理
化学のレベルで神経機構を解明することを目指している。最近の研究では、単一嗅細胞を用いて、電気生理学的記録と

ワインの風味劣化として知られる「コルク汚染」について研究を行い、
ワイン内に自然産生されるオフ
フレーバーTCAが嗅覚を遮断させることによってワインの風味を落としていることを見出した。細胞でTCAは10aM
（アットモル＝10-18M）でCNGチャネル阻害を起こすことが確認され、
これなどは揮発性のかおりの分子がわずか
な量でも生体機能に影響を及ぼすよい例として特筆される。著書「嗅覚生理学」、

Dr. Shioda is also serving as the chairperson of the Japanese Society of Aromatherapy (JSA), a nationwide medical society for clinical physicians and other medical staff members who conduct research on
legitimate medical applications of aromatherapy.
塩田清二は、昭和大学医学部において、組織・細胞学および発生学の分野で学生および大学院生教育を行っている。ま
た昭和大学のハイテクリサーチセンター教授を兼任しており、米国チューレン大学医学部の客員教授もしている。本人
の研究領域は神経科学の広い分野におよび、脳虚血による神経保護あるいは神経再生の研究、生活習慣病の予防治療
法の開発、
さらにアンチエイジング医学などについても主に動物を用いた基礎研究を行っている。
また日本アロマセラピー学会の理事長として長年学会の運営にも携わり、
さらにアロマセラピーを医療に応用するため
に動物実験ならびにヒトでの臨床応用研究なども行っている。また日本統合医療学会の副理事長として、
日本における
統合医療の普及と実現のために努力している。

Graduated from Oita Medical University (currently, Oita University Faculty of Medicine) and joined the
Department of Anesthesiology, Keio University School of Medicine in 1992. Joined the Department of
Obstetrics & Gynecology, Keio University School of Medicine in 1996. Began working at the Department
of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Saiseikai Central Hospital in 2002. Opened an aromatherapy outpatient
clinic in September, 2002, and studied the efficacy of aromatherapy for pain control including palliative care
and aromatherapy for disorders considered to be caused by hormonal imbalance, including menopausal
symptoms and premenstrual tension. Took up the position of Medical Director, Department of Obstetrics
and Gynecology, Saitama Social Insurance Hospital in 2011.

平成4年大分医科大学（現大分大学医学部）卒業。同年慶応義塾大学麻酔科学教室入局。平成8年　慶応義塾大学産婦
人科学教室入局。平成14年東京都済生会中央病院産婦人科勤務。同年9月よりアロマセラピー外来開設。緩和ケアな
どの疼痛コントロールのためのアロマセラピーや更年期障害、月経前緊張症などホルモンのアンバランスによると思わ
れる疾患に対するアロマセラピーの有効性を研究してきた。平成23年より現職。
