PRATI XXII RIONE DI ROMA
n times the area of today's Prati district consisted of vines and reeds; In
dle Ages it became Prata Sancti Petri ("Meadows of St. Peter") with
o the adjacent Basilica.
883 it was an expanse of natural meadows and marshes completely
, after 1883 the area was used for military exercises.
ust 20, 1921 the Prati district was established, the last in order of time of
cts of Rome, originally a district upholding the administrative structures of
gdom of Italy and residential-style liberty to state officials. It is still
ed the "City" of Rome.
an road was designed in such a way that none of the new ways had as its
und the dome of St. Peter's Basilica, testifying to the tense relations
the new Italian state and the Holy See. For this reason, the names of the
n the new district were chosen among all historical figures of the Roman
and Empire, leaders and scholars of classical Latin and pagan, and one
eroes of the Risorgimento, which was dedicated to the main square. The
eet of the neighborhood was named in 1911 to the tribune and Roman
Gabrini Nicholas, son of Lorenzo, called Cola di Rienzo, a Roman
n in the fourteenth century who tried to restore the republic in Rome in
to the papal power.
