Media release 20 January 2014 Tua Rita gets off to a great start in 2014 with two major wine accolades. Giusto di Notri 2010 ranked 24th in Decanter’s influential “Top 50 Wines of the year 2013”. Yet again, Redigaffi is one of the world’s strongest wine brands (Liv-Ex Italy 100). Giusto di Notri Giusto di Notri 2010 ranked 24th in Decanter’s “Top 50 Wines of the year 2013”. Tua Rita has learned with immense satisfaction that Giusto di Notri 2010 ranked 24th in Decanter magazine’s “Top 50 Wines of the year 2013”, for which tasters assess each wine and its score in relation to selling price. Ten Italian wines made the cut in a contest that saw 3,200 labels in contention. The accolade comes at a very special moment in Giusto di Notri’s history. The first wine to carry the Tua Rita name, Giusto di Notri this year celebrates its 20th anniversary with the release of the 2012 vintage. Giusto di Notri was a leading player in the Super Tuscan saga and has racked up a long series of outstanding vintages. The 2010 edition is one of them, thanks to a blend of the estate’s finest selected cabernet sauvignon, merlot and cabernet franc grapes. First produced in 1992, Giusto di Notri was named in tribute to Justus, the patron saint of Suvereto, Val di Cornia’s main town, and to the estate’s first vineyard, planted at Notri. Giusto di Notri the undisputed Tua Rita signature wine. This classic Bordeaux blend from meticulously selected grapes ages in small oak casks for 20 months. About 20,000 bottles are released to market. Redigaffi The new edition of the Liv-Ex Fine Wine 1000 includes a special index, the Italy 100, entirely devoted to Italian wines. Tua Rita’s Redigaffi is one of only ten Italian wines ranked among the world wine market’s strongest brands. Success follows success for Tua Rita. Yet again the Redigaffi has earned the major international distinction of featuring on the Liv-Ex Italy 100 that, within the wider Live-Ex 1000, considers the last 10 vintages of the 10 Italian Wines that could rapresent the global fine wines market. The Liv-Ex Italy 100 considers five parameters: the quantity of the wine traded on the index; the wine’s Robert Parker score; its mid-price; its price performance over the past year; and the volume produced. Redigaffi, produced since 1994, is the flagship wine of Tua Rita, which is based at Suvereto in the province of Livorno. It is a single-variety Merlot from meticulously selected grapes that mature in small oak casks for eighteen months. About 10,000 bottles are released to market. Tua Rita’s Redigaffi is crafted to achieve the very highest levels of quality and over almost two decades has accumulated many major distinctions. The 2000 vintage was the first-ever Italian wine to be awarded a maximum score of 100/100 by Robert Parker, the world’s foremost wine guru. It has just earned the 99/100, it earned 100 points from Wine Spectator with the 1997 vintage and has racked up an almost uninterrupted series of Three Glass awards from Gambero Rosso (1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008), as well as a similar string of Eccellenze awards from the Guida dell’Espresso (1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006). Inclusion in the Liv-Ex Power 100 Index is yet another acknowledgement of Tua Rita’s determination since day one to pursue quality without compromise. At Tua Rita, vineyard management and cellar work are scrupulous and the environment is cherished. Tua Rita’s success has always been driven by unremitting hard work, securing it a prominent place on a world wine scene where today Tua Rita stands shoulder to shoulder with the leading international players. This is Alta Maremma, perhaps one of the best-suited wine zones in the world for the international grape varieties – Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay, Riesling and Traminer – which are grown on the estate along with Sangiovese. Vineyard management and winemaking were immediately entrusted to Luca D’Attoma while Rita and Virgilio’s son-in-law Stefano Frascolla has always been active in the cellar and the office. The first vintage of Giusto di Notri was bottled in 1992. The wine, which takes its name from the saint to whom the church at Suvereto is dedicated and the estate’s own location, is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Since its very first vintage, Giusto di Notri has been one of the benchmark Bordeaux blends for the entire production zone. Tua Rita acquired star status with the release to market of a small quantity of barrique-aged Merlot from the 1994 harvest under the name of Redigaffi. The 2000 vintage was the first Italian wine to be awarded a spectacular 100/100 score by Robert Parker. Tua Rita told the story of a totally unique terroir as Rita and Virgilio carried forward their wine adventure with unswerving rigour. Sadly, Virgilio passed away in 2010 but the tireless, ever-enterprising Rita continues her work, flanked by Stefano and by her daughter Simena. Today, Tua Rita has thirty-five hectares under vine at an average elevation of 100 metres above sea level. The vines are planted on silt and clay soil at a density of 8-9,000 vines per hectare. Fruit from the scrupulously managed vineyards is cosseted by non-intrusive cellar protocols, restrained cask conditioning and rigorous attention for the environment. Tua Rita’s wine list includes: Redigaffi (Merlot), Syrah, Giusto di Notri (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc), Perlato del Bosco (Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon), Lodano (Traminer, Riesling and Chardonnay) and our “second vin” Rosso di Notri, obtained from a blend of all the red-berried varieties grown on the estate. Tua Rita, established in fifty international markets, is one of Italy’s outstanding craft winemakers. Roberta Fanucci, Marketing + 39 0565 829237 [email protected] www.tuarita.it
