Trento (Italy) 9-12 March, 2015
The course is organized by the hydrology group
of the University of Trento within the framework
of GLOBAQUA (www.globaqua-project.eu), a
EU FP7 project. The focus of the course is on
modeling hydrological processes across spatial
scales. Particular interest will be devoted to
catchment and continental scales, highlighting
difficulties and the solutions proposed to cope
with uncertainty arising from the dichotomy
between process complexity, due to spatial
heterogeneity, and the endemic data scarcity
with which hydrology struggles. Practical
sessions will be organized on the relevant topic
of modeling uncertainty.
Main topics
 Catchment-scale hydrological modeling
 Continental (Pan-European) hydrological
modeling
 Assessment of hydrological uncertainty
Target groups
 PhD students interested in hydrological
modelling both as developers or users
A basic knowledge of hydrological
processes and of probability is useful,
though not strictly necessary.
Venue
Department of Civil, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering
University of Trento
via Mesiano, 77 - 38123 Trento (Italy)
Cost
The fee is 150 €/person and will cover 2 coffee breaks, the lunches during the course, and a single
course dinner. The lecturers will provide their slides.

USEFUL INFORMATION
How to reach Trento
By car or coach
• Strada Statale dell'Abetone e del Brennero (SS12)
• From Modena: Autostrada del Brennero (A22); if you travel on the A22, take the Trento Sud exit (Trento centro is closed) and follow the SS12
direction Trento centro
• From Venice: Superstrada della Valsugana (SS47)
• From Milano/Brescia: Strada Statale Gardesana Occidentale (SS45 bis).
By train
• There are two main lines that reach Trento: the Brennero line (from Rome to Innsbruck) and the Valsugana line (from Venice to Trento). From
Venice it may be faster to take a train to Verona and then from Verona to Trento.
• For further information on train connections, please visit http://www.trenitalia.com/
By plane
• Verona Catullo Airport (90 km): this is the best option
• Venezia Marco Polo (195 km)
• Milano Linate (245 km)
• Milano Malpensa (300 km)
How to reach Mesiano (where the Course is held)
By bus (from Trento)
Trento has an efficient urban travel system run by Trentino Trasporti (http://www.ttspa.it/home).
Pick up bus nr. 5 (which runs every 20 min, departure in front of the railway station) direction Oltrecastello. Stop in Mesiano - Fac.
Ingegneria. It takes 15 min. You must buy the ticket BEFORE getting on the bus. Please mind to obliterate the ticket once in the bus.
By taxi
Taxis can be caught anywhere in the city or booked calling (+39) 0461 930002.
Accommodation
Participants can take advantage of special rates, thanks to an agreement between the University of Trento and the hotels. They must do their
own reservation directly at the hotel, qualifying themselves as participants to the GLOBAQUA course, and ask for the special rate reserved
to the University of Trento. Information about arrival, departure, and any other changes must be communicated directly to the hotel. We suggest
booking the room as soon as possible.
