WORKSHOPS
1. Technology and science for toddlers
Toddlers can do more than you think: they are enterprising, creative and especially very curious. The
world of technology to them is a world where they can experiment and think in a problem-solving way. In
this workshop the participants learn about how the development of problem solving skills of toddlers can
be stimulated and how a STEM policy (science, technology and maths) can be implemented on the level of
the organisation.
Workshop leader: Leen De Bie. Her main expertise is implementing technology and science in education
and developing a network of stakeholders on innovation in education. She is also author of the book ‘a
look at technology’.

2. Learning by doing. Language acquisition of toddlers
How do toddlers acquire language? What can we do to boost their language development? And how do
we make our efforts stick at an organisational level? In this workshop, we will discuss how young children
acquire language and what we can do in order to stimulate their language learning process. The
participants will discover user friendly tools, developed by the Centre for Language and Education (KU
Leuven), and daily practices in Early Childhood Education and Care in Flanders.
Workshop leader: Carolien Frijns, PhD student and researcher at the Centre for Language and Education
(KU Leuven). As a PhD student, she is carrying out a research (Jan 2013 - Dec 2016) on second language
acquisition of Turkish toddlers in Flemish kindergarten. As a researcher, she is carrying out various
projects related to task-based language teaching.

3. Parent involvement in ECEC
This workshop is about the topic ‘parent involvement in ECEC’. In an interactive way, the participants
learn how to strengthen the relationship between the child, the parents and the caretaker or school.
Interesting tools will be presented that can be implemented in the daily practice, but also on the level of
the organisation.

Workshop leader: Tine Cluyts. Her passion is to promote the wellbeing of children at school with
authenticity, connectedness and atmosphere as main conditions in order to learn. Happy children and
passionate teachers are her goal.
